Crazy CFB fact: ISU controls its own BCS destiny, Iowa doesn't

I couldn't believe this. I just looked at standings across the country. In the Big 12 North ISU is 3-2. Neb. & Missouri are 3-1, KSU is 2-3 by the way. If ISU wins out they are in the conference championship game thus controlling their destiny to the BCS.

Its not going to happen but its a wild fact at this point in the year.

To even take it one step farther you can say the Big 12 North comes through Ames, since both Nebraska & Missouri come to Ames.

If Iowa State makes the title game that means Oklahoma can play their backups and control their BCS destiny

They probably should beat Colorado and I don't think it's too inconceivable that they can beat Missouri but I don't see how they beat Nebraska and it's hard to justify team even competing against a team that beat they by 52 points (if Oklahoma makes the title game from the South).

I actually wouldn't mind Iowa State pulling it off though. We still have a shot at an at large bid and Iowa State winning wouldn't hurt.

on the same topic, how AWFUL is texas this year? they lost to baylor with the refs on their payroll

Texas has been up and down all year! They still have a lot of talent on the team and I expected them to be top 15 all year.

Gilbert hasn't produced the way I thought he would. But, I still can't believe that the pollsters thought this was a top 5 team in the preseason. You don't rely on two guys the way they relied on Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley, then lose those two guys, and STILL be a top-5 team. Period. Same logic applies to Florida.

You closed your tab too early at the hula hut in austin, tx if you really believe this... go back there and get off the message board.

If the Bears and the 'Clones take care of busines....
ISU vs. Baylor for the Big 12 title.

That would an awesome way to end the Big 12.

That's a mighty big if and it gets dashed into a million pieces next week.

I don't think ISU will get past Nebraska or Missouri. They got past a bad Texas but Ne and Mo are a big step up from Texas this year.

Wait, i thought the higest in the BCS rankings goes to the Championship. Unless they changed the rule. If there is a tie the highest ranked in the BCS shall represent the division in the Big 12 Championship. Wasn't there a huge controversy with Texas and OU 2 years ago because OU went, but Texas beat them on the field???

I think that's because they were tied in the standings.

You're right, there is no way for ISU to tie Mizzou or Nebby without beating both of them which would be the first tie breaker.

Divisional Tiebreakers: The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:

1. If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative
2. If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

1. The records of the three teams will be compared against each other
2. The records of the three teams will be compared within their division
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5 and 6)
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
5. The highest ranked team in the first Bowl Championship Series poll following the completion of Big 12 regular season conference play shall be the representative in the Big 12 Championship Game, unless two of the tied teams are ranked within one spot of the other in the BCS poll. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the Big 12 Championship Game.
6. The team with the best overall winning percentage (excluding exempted games) shall be the representative.
7. The representative will be chosen by draw.
