As much as he loved basketball, it looked like it was about to end for the walk-on that senior season. That was when Craig Neal, the associate head coach on that Hawkeyes team, planted a seed in Wieck’s head.
“I vividly remember him telling me, ‘I think you have a knack for coaching. Have you ever thought about coaching?’ ” Wieck told the Journal on Tuesday. “It really got me thinking.”
