Countdown thread to Hawkeye Football, Sept 5, 2015

49 Melvin Spears DE

48 Jack Hockaday LB freshman that could be on Special Teams, this year

46 George Kittle TE Could have Breakout year, imho

45 Eric Grimm LB (RS Frosh walkon, Nephew of Russ Grimm, NFL Hall of Famer

I was a bit surprised not to see Melvin Spears on the 2 deeps. The younger back ups at defensive end are sure making a strong push!

With Drew Ott, Nate Meier, Nelson, the big RS frosh from CR Xavier, all being potential
All Big Ten DE's, soon, perhaps Melvin can help-out on Special Teams.

Only a few Saturdays left until Kickoff at Kinnick............35 Days

38 Adam Cox FB
37 Brandon Snyder S
36 Cole Fisher LB
35 CJ Hilliard RB
34 Nate Meier DE

Man this post is getting amped up. I am so ready for that stale pretzel, cold hot dog and over priced burger.

I think the whole season is going to hinge on whether or not the offensive line is going to be able to give CJ and the backfield enough time to allow things to develop. The scrimmage in WDM in April indicated either our defense was overwhelming, or our O line was inept.

Well, to be fair, the strength/experience of the defensive line is at both end positions and the weakness/inexperience of the offensive line is at both tackle positions. The ends overwhelmed the tackles in the spring. That was plain to see, but going against those guys is only going to make them stronger. The question is how ready will they be come game day? I am absolutely expecting some growing pains, but then again there aren't many teams on Iowa's schedule who possess the same quality of defensive ends that Iowa currently has. Practicing against Ott, Meier, and Nelson day in and day out is the trial by fire that they need. It should provide a huge wake up call. Plus CJ's ability to use his legs SHOULD help.

Your point is absolutely valid though. If the young tackles can't adjust quickly it could get ugly.

OK, been travelling...........time flies, when you do.

17 days til Kickoff at Kinnick stadium.!

From memory, I think 17 is Jacob Hillyer.
J Hillyer needs to Step-Up and be the Wide Receiver who out Tough the defense.

NC............

Linky doesn't appear to be working.

In the meantime, some young Hawkeyes are working their
a.........s off to get ready for the 2015 season.

Now might be a good time to reconsider if you have
Hawkeye spirit, like the young Hawkeyes display.
