Couldn't shoot.

We finally had a night where not enough people were on.

The crazy thing is we were broke and still could have won against a top 10 team with a 25 game winning streak at home.

As irritated as I am - that also shows me how good we are. We could be really damn good.

I couldn't watch but I kept up on the game tracker. We certainly shot the ball poorly from a % stand point. Was it good defense by Maryland or just poor shooting?

it was a little bit of both.

Maryland played good defense against Uthoff.

But Uhl threw up some mega bricks even when wide open.

Baer had 3 wide open 3's and didn.t get close on any of them.

I'd say it was about 40% maryland defense and 60% we just missed.

Agreed, if Gessell doesn't gag yet again and makes 2 FT late then turn the ball over next possession maybe a different game.

Uthoff shot his euro-step shot like completely dogsh*t. Yet iowa still was in the game until the end. I said to my Iowa buddy "how is Iowa still in this game"...woody got hosed over by some awful calls inside..Uthoff wasn't hitting a GD thing from anywhere...Baer was awful all around...Jok wasn't hitting from deep...and yet Iowa was in it with a minute left in the game.

If that's the worst game we'll play the rest of the year...we're in really really good shape. Hard to hang your head on this one, Maryland doesn't lose at home and Iowa basically gave them the win.

Side note: those calls on Woody were complete F'ing horse sh*t. That one foul Sulaimon was hooking Woody and they called Woody for the foul. Never seen such garbage in my life

That one was terrible, but they definitely evened out a few minutes later. Carter got absolutely hosed on his fifth foul, too.

I did not realize that Maryland uses a different ball then the rest of the big ten. Not an excuse and I don't think the team is using it as one, but you'd assume that the ball used in big ten games was something they standardized.

Balls make a huge difference. I practice with a TF-1000 and generally use that as the game ball with friends. Got stolen so we used a different ball. Shot was way off, everything felt really weird.

That certainly can make a difference if true but the shot selection certainly played a factor.

Maryland struggled too... Free throws were the difference in the game.

Layman was the key to the Maryland win. Finally, someone long and athletic enough to bother Uthoff. He also had the block on Jok's 3 attempt late. Suilman also annoyed me and hurt us, but I think Layman was the key difference, offensively & defensively last night.

How many times last night were there if we would've pump faked, Maryland was jumping at everything....Jok getting stuffed behind the arc late, pump fake and maybe 3 free throws, it's just the little things like that you have to try, I guess.....any other night those shots fall, Baer was out of it last night, Uhl makes 1 or 2 and thinks he's a 3 pt shooter, he was off....he needs to drive more...

I agree with you on Jok pump faking. I disagree on Uhl. He is a 3 point shooter...best percentage on the team. He's 21 for 43 and 48.8% on the season...even better percentage in conference play.

Clemmons 3 in the corner late in the game off the inbounds pass. Clemmons blinked and the defender leaped at him. A little head fake and hes shooting 3 fts instead of the shot being blocked.

When both teams are struggling to score and it's a close game I would much rather see players like Uhl go to the basket, make a layup, get fouled, whatever. Especially when Uhl had by far the biggest mismatch in Iowa's favor with Uthoff slumping.

He scored nine points. That's OK but in this game I think he should've been closer to 20 points then 10.

Have to agree that Clemmons should have fallen forward during the shot and drawn the foul.
