Could Weisman become Iowa's all time leading rusher?

Sounds crazy but if he stays healthy he could potentially pass Shaw. Currently Mark is sitting at 1430 career rushing yards. Shaw ended with 4156, which puts Weisman 2726 yards behind right now. Lets assume Iowa makes a bowl game this year as well as next year(maybe even throw in a Big Ten championship game???). That gives Weisman at least 21 more games in a Hawkeye uniform, meaning he would need to average 129.8 yards per game to match Shaw's record. Obviously there are a lot of things have have to go right for Mark, but it certainly isn't impossible. With that said I'm going to go offer AIRBHG a sacrifice now.....

I don't think it will happen. When Shaw began his career, he was getting significant time as a frosh, and was pretty much a "full-time" 3-year+ starter. While he did have Banks backing him up, and Tim Dwight got "some" time at RB, Shaw was pretty much "the guy".

Mark had no carries as a frosh, then an abbreviated soph season. Now, as a junior, he CAN be considered "the guy", but there is (for now) a full complement of RBs. Add to that Jake Rudock being a very good QB who can spread the ball around, it would seem to me that Mark will maybe approach 3500 yards. To get to 4000? A TON of stuff has to happen, IMO. And, if teams "key" on Weisman, we seem to have a good enough QB in place who can distribute the ball to WRs and TEs.

OTOH, if anyone is physically capable of 30+ carries and 130+ yards as an average, Mark Weisman is.

I think someone posted earlier that Weisman averages 129 yards per game as a starter (or very close to that number). We have a pretty easy schedule next year. I think it's possible. I hope he does it.

Man that's a lot of yards to build up in two yrs. But anything is possible. GO HAWKS!

This is unlikely given MW style, defenses we will face, and hopefully the fact that MW will not be required to carry such a heavy carry load going forward. Love me some Mossad though.

I don't see him doing 20 -25 carries a game all season. You will gradually see more of a variety in both the running and passing game.

Technically possible but highly unlikely. The coaches seem determined to have Mark finish the season on his feet. They have been doing a good job getting Bullock enough carries to keep Mark fresh.

Good solid runner, but, as Hawkirobert and AWTY said above, the QB play will eventually get to a point where the ball gets distributed more in a passing game and the RB's will split more carries. Hopefully though he still gets in a position to only need 1700 yards next season!

Jess Settles is a beast. He's ready to go. He's just redshirting again until Aaron White is gone for the good of the team.

Weitman will have an extra 12th game each year, plus, probably, a BoneG championship and bowl game each year, giving him 14 games per season, which, if he catches Shaw, will maek his record illegitimate.

Well, once they started counting bowl games, etc., NCAA-wide records became something of a apples-to-oranges deal. In Mark's case, we're talking 3 years vs. Shaw's 4 years. Tell me, again, just how "illegitimate" that would be? As "illegitimate" as Shonn Greene getting his single-season record in 13 games vs. Tavian Banks getting the one SG broke in only 12 games?

The "records" aren't what is "illegitimate", sport.

Isn't a playoff starting soon? 15 games instead of 14, right?

couple things. I dont think the OP said it was a lock, ever. He said its possible. And, its really not a huge stretch. I dont think it will happen either, but, I could happen without anythin really crazy happeneing. Also, Im quite impressed with OK4P. For being such a troll, hes quite versed in Iowa Athletics....Sometimes I wonder if hes really Fitz trolling us.....
