Cougill had his chance to stay or go, or did he really have a chance?
If he was given the option to stay and sit out, or go to Kirkwood and never return, we see what road he took. To me, he left and that was it, he was never going to be back at Iowa, if he wanted to be at Iowa he would have sit out the year and got his academics in order.
For saying he would help Iowa, how? Let me put it like this, Cougill is out of shape and probably still is and in an offense that suits his athletic ability and conditioning. Take a look at Sullinger, not comparing talent, but work ethic, he was well over 300 lbs his Jr year in high school and in fast paced games had trouble getting back on defense or getting up the floor in transition. Go to his Sr season in high school and he was about 285, but didn't hold up his team and he ran the floor, especially in games against the really good opponents like the televised games. Go to his freshman season at OSU and he looked more in shape and was as low as 275, I think he wore out during the season, but look at him this year, from the start of last season he is down another 25 lbs and looks better than ever. No way would Cougill ever dedicate himself to doing something similar. When he signed his LOI, he said he had to work on his conditioning...did you see a difference...um, no.
No more posts about this guy, he is in a good place for him and for all of Iowa basketball. To say he is better than Archie, really isn't saying much.
