IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Iowa reserve forward Brennan Cougill has been ruled academically ineligible for next season and will transfer to a community college.
Hawkeyes coach Fran McCaffery announced Cougill's departure in a statement released Tuesday.
Cougill, a native of Sioux City, Iowa, says he'll transfer to nearby Kirkwood Community College in hopes of rejoining of Hawkeyes.
Cougill averaged four points and three rebounds a game as a true freshman in 2009-10.
McCaffery says he'd like to have Cougill back on the Hawkeyes roster provided he takes care of business.
Cougill's departure leaves Iowa with just two post players who played last season; Jarryd Cole and Andrew Brommer.
