Cougill

I know I am going to get jumped for a Cougill thread. Brennan is playing like a man for Kirkwood right now. Went for 17 and 14 against Indian Hills. Friend of mine close to Kirkwood program says he consistently looking like the best player on the court. I hope to see him back. Brennan will be a assett to the team. Even if it is 10-15 minute a game role. My buddy says very quiet on the recruiting front for him. Good sign as far as I am concerned. I stood behind Brommer, and I will stand behind Cougill. I believe Fran said he will be welcome back if academics are straightened out.

I took a summer class at kwood in Iowa City with him. It was everyday for two hours. out of 30 classes he maybe showed up 14.

I don't think anyone doubts Brennan has the talent. The problem with that kid is that he is just flat out LAZY. He was told over and over to lose weight and he never did. He was given a chance to take a summer course to stay eligible and he couldn't get up early enough to go to class.

He just comes off like a kid who was never taught to develop a work ethic. Now, if he ever did grow up enough to make a commitment to be a dedicated student, and lose the 30 lbs he needs to lose to be able to effectively get up and down the court, I would be excited to have him back.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of with a player like Cougill. The things you just mentioned don't exactly scream "work ethic". For that reason, I'm not anxious to see him back in a Hawkeye jersey. I would rather have players that bust their tails and work hard to improve their game and become better athletes.

he should be the best player on the court at Kirkwood no??

I wish him well but just don't see him being a good fit at Iowa. It would be best for him to start looking at other schools.

If he truly has a work ethic issue, I would think playing for Fran might be rather uncomfortable. Seems he would not tolerate it and would sit anyway. Maximize the scholarship.

MVC talent. Plus, he absolutely doesn't fit this style. We need bigs like Basabe to play in this style. You can see the type of player Fran wants, Basabe being an example and he will get those types of players in the coming years. Once he does that, this team and program is going to be in the NCAA's year in and year out. Brennan just doesn't fit.

BC will get a chance to play for the Hawkeyes again. BUT he will just have to earn his scholarship back. That means playing without a scholarship for at least half of a season, if not a full season. Failing as he has, both scholastically & physically are two huge knocks. No way Fran lets him have a scholarship, without first proving his worth - on his own - at Iowa.

If BC does what he is suppose to do, I think that he will make it back with a scholarship. That's a tall order tho. To make it back, he will have to work harder than he has ever worked in his life...

Waste of a scholly

This. The guard trapped in a Panda's body is indeed a wasted scholly and a step backwards for the program. He does not fit what Fran wants to do and doesn't resemble anyone that he is going after. If Coug's ends up back at Iowa it's not a good sign.

I didn't want to chime in on this one, but I must and this will be the last time, hopefully, on any Cougill threads.
We must keep this in mind, Cougill left after he did some things to try and attain eligibility. He left the program, this is important to me.
Why leave? If he is serious about Iowa and playing for Iowa, why go to Kirkwood? The simple answer is playing ball is more important. It would have shown me a whole lot more about him if he had stayed and got his academics in order and stayed around the new coaches and players, no matter the situation. It was just easier to leave rather than tough it out and watch and attempt to work with the staff on how to get in better shape to play. With that in mind, I know not a lot of players will take that leap of faith and do that, but with the transformation that is going on at Iowa, I would have thought he would still want to be around it rather than be more concerned about playing. Cougill has some ability, there is no doubt, at one point he was considered at Top 100 player, but I think his conditioning hurt him, he is a lot like Derrick Nix at MSU, he is still grossly out of shape after losing 40 or more lbs. Each has talent, but can't show it at the Big Ten level from being lazy. If anyone saw Jared Sullinger his Jr. year of high school, he was about 300 lbs. look at him now and the type of player he has continued to become just by dedicating himself to a little fitness, complete makeover.
We will see what happens, I agree with one person, if he is back at Iowa this is a potential step backwards. Get a player that is a raw athlete, rather than Mr. Staypuff.
