"Their degree ranks 15th in the nation, so it's hard not to be impressed with that. My mom doesn't care so much about the football side. She wants there to be stability with the coaching staff. Football is football, you line up and the objectives are all the same, so she's worried about the other parts"

and his latest tweet
"To all reporters can we get all the interviews out the way today so I can focus"

Sounds like his mom likes Iowa. He might like somewhere else, though. He's the one commit I'm having a hard time predicting either way.

He seems like a pretty level-headed guy. It didn't really have anything to do with us, but I liked the line "Buildings are buildings, but it's all about the people in the place and not the bricks that have been laid."

From what Michigan and MSU fans have been saying ... it sounds like Cooper and his family have a pretty close relationship with Groh (DC at Georgia Tech).

Given that Paul Johnson is an excellent coach ... there certainly will be great coaching continuity at GT at the top spot. However, given that Groh was formerly a head coach at Virginia ... and a decent one too ... I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up landing a head coaching gig at another place down the road (sooner rather than later). Of course, Groh likely has given Cooper and his fam the assurance that he'll be remaining at GT for a long time.

Groh will be 67 by the start of next season.

Pretty old to ever be given another major, BCS-level head coaching job .

Did anyone click on his other post about weekend visitors?

"MD DT Darian Cooper. Had an in-home with DC Greg Mattison yesterday. Scout's Gene Hankerson is feeling good about the situation there. Iowa and Michigan State are the main competition. Iowa was out in front, who knows if the news that they try to kill their players will affect him."

Wonder how they will feel if we do end up getting his commitment. Maybe then they will realize that 18 yr old can see what is an actual strength program is and actually put together a defense that can actually keep someone off the scoreboard. Before I get flamed, yes I do understand that this is a new coaching staff, but you need a large change in talent to fix something like their defense.

The Michigan D will be in much better hands with Mattison at the helm.

Quite apart from what others say, the Michigan DL has some excellent guys on depth chart ... they just need better coaching and they need to have a coach who has a DEFINITE defensive coaching philosophy. The problem with Rich Rod is that he was an "offensive guy" and he didn't have a clear vision for the D. That then kinda left Greg Robinson rather hamstrung ... and all the injuries certainly didn't help either.

And, quite frankly, the Michigan DL has BETTER current depth on the DL than Iowa does.

Thus, to that end, Iowa actually offers MORE early opportunity to a new DL recruit ... at least one who has a good work ethic and who is physically ready. Cooper is certainly a guy who could potentially fit that bill.

I'm obviously biased but from reading into his comments after visits i feel like he was much more impressed with Iowa. However im not as confident as I once was that he'll sign with us.

My impression is that it will likely come down between Iowa and Georgia Tech. The more I think about it ... the more confident I am that Cooper will end up a Hawk. No guarantees though ... just my gut feeling.

And, for the record, I think that Cooper has a great chance to really shine at Iowa. His combo of size, motor, and use of leverage really seems to fit our program well. And, furthermore, depth-wise ... was NEED him! A "win-win" scenario for BOTH parties ....
