Cool little tidbit on the Iowa coaching tree.

McCarney also had the distinction of coaching under previous coach to Fry, Bob Commings. So, he is both a branch and a leaf. Sort of
Missed a couple. Don Patterson, Mike Stoops, Jim Leavitt, Chuck Long the old guy from Appalachian State. And, Bob Stoops, Bielema, and Mac got their break with Fry....not snyder, or alvarez.
Fry's tree is remarkable. For the most part they were all at Iowa at the same time...the 80's. Alvy left after the 86 season, Snyder after the 88 season(taking Bob Stoops, who went to Kent State in 87), Alvy got Mac after the 89 season....same year Ferentz went to Maine.
Mike Stoops and Bielema was with Iowa for years before spending a few years with KState and Snyder. Beilema spent more time with Fry/Ferentz than he did with alvy and snyder.

And of course, Bo Pelini was on staff, in some capacity, for a year. 1991 or thereabouts?
