Contract extension on the horizon for Fran

wait, weren't you all super critical of paul Rhoads getting a raise after a few "mediocre" seasons at ISU? I await your criticisms of this move by barta...

i would say it is premature. he has won games when no one expects you to. next yr and especially the yr after people are going to expect wins and we wont get looked past anymore. if he can get us in the top 1/3 of the conference next yr with a ncaa berth i would say ok. now is probably premature.

very astute observation. i really wasn't expecting this. there apparently IS at least a few sane people on this board.

i feel rhoads was premature but warranted. he was being highly sought after by schools with bigger wallets. so as long as they upped their money they could keep him without actually paying as much as the others...basically a hometown discount. but i think if isu hadnt given him the money they did he would have been gone because i heard he was offered more at other places.

I hope we wait at least until AFTER this season...I think we're headed in the right direction...but let's be sure before we tie our hands.

I think it would be prudent to hold off on a contract extension until Lick is completely off the books. If I'm not mistaken, that will be at the end of the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

I agree, I like the progress the team is making but just because Iowa won 18 games and reached the NIT I would not talk contract extension just yet.

Fran took over a program that was suffering through it's worst 3 year stretch in history.

Rhoads took over after a national championship caliber coach left.
;)

why give him extension, he only had one chairslamming, if he take it up to the man with more chairslamming sessions.

He may be the lowest paid coach in the Big Ten this year. I would definitely toss a little more cash at him and then, if things play out according to his blueprint, give him an extension after next year.

We're not ISU, we have two or three times the budget and need to be proactive. You don't underpay him, wait for others to offer more and then lose him because he felt under appreciated; the guy has turned programs around everywhere else and is doing so at Iowa. We can afford to act and we need to do so now not when everyone else is offering a year or two from now.
