We don't have a sexy program to sell to the recruits. Our offence is boring zero pass attack. Bend but don't break defense was broke all year. KF has rolled the dice on walk-ons and 2-3 star recruits and they have not panned out. His approach to recruiting appears to be the same as gameday coaching.

I agree with this. So why are the nation's best high school punters not lining up and begging to play at Iowa? Seriously.

Hayden had surges and declines during his 20 years. I always assumed that those lower spots correlated to departures of key staffers like Alvarez, Mac, Snyder etc. I was frustrated with that- used to look at PSU and Neby as programs that kept their staffs intact for decades. Now KF has the kind of program that retains people....but there are still ebs and flows.

I think anytime you have had to project like Iowa does (with *'s), you are going to have some years where the recruits work out better. Nowdays, everyone is recruiting even earlier and this makes projecting even harder. The up side to this is, now all programs are projecting, just some at different rates and extremes then others.
