Conner McCaffery | ESPN rated 53rd Nationally

Good God, I'm glad he has his Mom's looks in that photo ;)....Good job Conner...Glad you're Hawk

I would love to see him play sometime.....It's not b/c he's Fran's kid, but I love watching good basketball players and how they make their teams better....

Both those McCaffery boys are going to be pretty darn good... Patrick is just so smooth and long for an 8th grader it's nuts. He has skills that either you work your buttocks off to get good at or your just a flat out natural. I think he's the one that the hype machine will just grow and grow on. (him beating cancer will make him a media darling on top of that) Conner if he doesn't keep growing will be a heck of a pg. At 6'4 or 6'5 he's already pretty darn good and I love taller pgs. Coaches kids or not they have bright futures hope we get to see it. (as in I hope coach is around that long)

Amen to that. I'm of the opinion that keeping Fran has got to be a priority no matter what happens in the next couple seasons. With the McCaffery boys, Pemsl, and now Wieskamp in the fold the future is very bright. Keeping Fran is a must because clearly they all want to play for him. Hell, in this day and age, I wouldn't be surprised to see other programs make him an offer partly because both of his boys are going to be top 100 recruits and clearly they are going to play for him. It's not that often you can land a coach and two top recruits just like that.

And that is exactly what I meant by that... I think Iowas momentum is clearly pointing up and Fran so far has done nothing but show he can build a program. Iowa isn't the first program he's built up just the highest profile and most recent. I would think any school that is in any kind of rebuilding mode would be crazy to not look at a guy like Fran and not consider him. The fact that in the upcoming years his boys alone could be building blocks should just put him over the top. Now granted I'm looking 2 yrs down the road but I don't think it's too far in left field to think that after this year if Iowa has a better then good season that he'd be in demand... So I hope Iowa does whatever it takes to make/keep him happy.

Fran has worked his whole career to get to this level, a good power five program. He's not going to leave for another rebuilding project, he's too old for that ****.

I don't think he would go somewhere for a rebuilding project, but I wouldn't be shocked if he went somewhere "more prestigious" if given a nice offer. He is an East Coast guy after all. I think it's naive of any fan base to think that it's impossible that their coach wouldn't accept another position. All you have to do is look at Clown fans for evidence of that (boy that was fun to watch).

With that said, it seems like Fran and his family have really fallen in love with the state of Iowa. The support his family received during Patrick's bout with cancer probably plays a role in that. Plus the care he received at the U of I hospitals. Going through something like that as a family has a way of really making you appreciate what you have. I think it would take a real nice offer and a perfect fit in order to get him out of Iowa City. I certainly hope that doesn't happen anytime soon.

Fran is 56, a "more prestigious" school isn't trying to hire a guy who is nearly 60.

Hope so.. But the types of jobs he would even consider leaving Iowa for would be ones that would be steps up and that the rebuilding wouldn't be that much. Especially if he's got his boys going with him and maybe more. Fran is an east coast guy right? There are a lot of good schools out there he may have mutual interest in if any was lobbed at him... I thought the Florida job would have garnered more interest then it did for a bigger name. That to me should be a great job. But that's me rambling.
Although I'm with you I think most coaches want to work themselves to get into the position he is now and he should be all set. That makes all the sense in the world. Although when it comes to coaching you just can never say never...

Exactly. That's really all I was trying to say. I would be nervous if a big east coast school came calling. Pitt, Syracuse, St. John's, UConn... etc. Not saying that's going to happen, but you never really know. Fran might be 60, but he doesn't seem to be slowing down at all. I don't think he'll leave, but I would never rule it out. His boys have grown up here. They're passionate about the Iowa program because they've spent their most important years of childhood being raised within it. I'm sure they want to contribute to Iowa basketball and their Dad's legacy here.

That's the one to keep an eye on.... Isn't Boehiem one foot out the door with a retirement plan in place now of like 2 yrs down the road? That'd be pretty much the type of program I was referring to..... Man I hate myself that I even see these angles. Wish I could just enjoy the hear and now more. It's just the way my brain is wired.

Yeah... Syracuse is the one that sort of made me cringe when I typed it just because Boeheim has got to be nearing his end there. Fortunately it's such a prestigious basketball school that they'll probably have their pick when it comes to coaches. Fran's not on that elite level yet. Also, Boeheim is a control freak. When he leaves I wouldn't be surprised if he's allowed to hand pick his successor. In other words... it's quite a long shot Fran would ever be targeted by Syracuse, but if he were I'm sure it would be tempting to almost any coach in college basketball.

The younger McCaffrey is even better. Patrick is 6-7 and plays like a brother, if you know what I mean.
