Congratulations to Coach Ferentz

Ferentz passed into Elite Status yesterday. It marked the first time in his career that he beat both ISU and Northwestern in the same season. Granted, we had a couple of years in there where we missed the 'Cats, but with the 'Cats and Clowns on the schedule every year going forward, this is a significant milestone in Coach's development and it portends good things to come.

Sergeant Hulka concurs.

Meh, KF teams have a trend of getting better as the season progresses with us peaking at a bowl game.

I've heard this for years, but don't see the evidence.

For every 2003, 2004 and 2008 season, we improved, there are teams that have gotten worse.
2006 (ranked #13 and then lose just about the rest of the games)
2007 (losing at home to a Western Michigan team with a losing record)
2010 (preseason top 10 then finish 7-5 before bowl game) and
2012 (lose 6 straight).

Kirk and his staff does get an A- for bowl preparation, regardless of the circumstances.

Take into consideration injuries and etc, I think the staff has overcome a lot. Bowl preparation shows you how well our staff does having an opportunity to prepare for an opponent.

these rankings really have no bearing on how good of a team you have - just a presaison assumption by a bunch of hack writers. the 2012 example isn't a good one given how thin the team was, and given the key injuries (OL most importantly) and factoring in the new coaching staff.

And everyone saw how the last 6 games would turnout in '12
. Actually showed a lot of heart against nubby after a long head season
