Congrats to Peter Jok!

Just want to give some recognition to Peter Jok on having a good start today! Knocking down those couple of jumpers early got the Hawks off to a good start. This was a much needed win after the losses to both ISU & UNI. One game at a time next up Nebraska. Go Hawks!

Honestly, I still don't understand Fran's decision to sit him in the first half with two fouls. You have Clemmons, Ogelsby, and Gesell, and we can go big. Him getting a third really means nothing...as we have depth and options. We need offense, especially when a guy is going good. Let him play.

Great win, but sometimes Fran's substitution patterns are bizarre.

I had that thought go through my head real quick during the game but I didn't put much thought into why it was such a bad idea. After reading your post and thinking about it , I agree. It was a really bad idea. We have struggled all year on getting guards going. We finally got one going and he rides pine the rest of the half. What are the odds he comes out strong again after sitting so long? I would say not very good. Ride him until he fouls out or cools off. Whichever comes first.

Clemmons does a lot of things extremely well, including defense. I would like to see Clemmons and Jok on the floor at the same time.....a lot

Jok needs to become consistent on the defensive end, that and he makes a few too many mistakes, silly fouls, etc. That all seems to be improving. With more playing time, that will hopefully round off to better all-around play this season.
We need him to step up. His outside play, both defensively, and offensively will very much help this team take it to the next level. I am not throwing it all on his shoulders. I am simply saying good outside play, moreso on the offensive end, will propel the rest of the team...

On Iowa!

Anyone else notice he is starting to look a lot more explosive lately? I've beein seeing random really quick bursts here and there on both ends of the floor.

He doesn't have great lateral quickness (which is why he needs to continue to learn to play good position defense), but when healthy he has a very good first step that allows him to get by defenders and he's a decent leaper. Slowly but surely starting to see the "old Pete" again.

Fran sits anyone who gets a second foul for the rest of the first half. If he makes exceptions there is no lesson learned. Jok is coming around. I like him starting. But he still has a long way to go to make the most of his potintial

Yep. There are very few exceptions to this rule. It doesn't matter how careful a guy is or how smart a guy is. The refs make bad calls and miss stuff all of the time. See Woodbury's 4th foul yesterday. Putting a player back out there with 2 in the 1st half risks getting that 3rd and limiting the player's aggressiveness in the 2nd half.

Side Note - I like that Jok is driving to the basket and initiating contact in other ways rather than just shooting the 3. He's too good of a FT shooter to not get to the line as much as possible. I think any reasonable person would agree that Jok is much better now than he was last year...and has the potential for a pretty high ceiling when all is said and done.

Yea I like Joks upside. Speaking of Woody I think he let the way OSU was getting away with shoving him around get in his head and it got him on the bench too. The refs let them get away with a lot in the first half. White was talking to them at half time. But that's just life on the road in the B 10

I always assumed it was soley to prevent a 3rd foul and had nothing to do with teaching lessons. Either way, I've seen quite a few exceptions.

Is it really that big of deal if Jok doesn't play a lot of minutes in the 2nd half? The odds of him continuing to play good in the first half is way higher than trying to replicate his performance in the second half after sitting for that long.

When a player is as inconsistent as Jok, it's probably a good idea to take advantage when he's on. As it turned out, Jok did nothing in the second half so Fran essentially saved him for no reason.

Personally, with Jok starting and Sapp off the bench, I think we've found our rotations. Let this team figure it out and we should be fine come tourney time.

Finally Pete is playing up to his potential.

His D isn't as terrible as some want to suggest. I mean if you want to compare to our other options at the 2... Him and Ogelsbu are probably fairly close. Jok is quicker and longer. Josh is just smarter. Pretty close to being a wash.

I said it when Pete was going through some of the legal trouble as a play on words that it would be a crime if Jok wasn't starting.

i also told another poster to get on the Jok bandwagon and listed him as one of the most important players on the team because we need him to pick up the scorin we lost from Marble.

I've also said he has NBA potential.

I'm high on Jok and have been since last year.

Jok still has a good chance to improve on his explosiveness too. Most kids have the chance to improve in their teens. He didn't because of injuries. Obviously he is 100% healed, but that doesn't mean he is where he would have been if the injury didn't occur.

Oglesby came in and played one of the best games of his career so I don't understand how it was stupid considering Oges was a key factor to the W. Jok played poorly after the first 10 minutes and played too timid. It obviously wasnt a stupid idea if it worked.

I disagree with your last sentence. That's like saying Kirk's clock management wasn't stupid in the Capitol One Bowl. Oglesby's production is irrelevant to the discussion in my opinion. It doesn't change my point that it was unlikely that Jok would play good in the second half after sitting the last half of the first

Windsor, you didn't strike me as a poster that would be so quick with the thumbs down. Just out of curiousity, which part of my post I quoted was so bad?

I disagreed with a portion of the post. That's all...not that big of a deal. Last year I was constantly getting in pointless arguments...promised myself I wouldn't have a repeat this year. So that's as much as I will say.
