Conferences

As far as Big Ten teams not having to play up this year, its a little misleading to say its because the Big Ten does not have any playoff teams. The Big Ten still got 3 teams playing in committe bowls, after all.

The only reason the Big Ten not having a playoff team actually matters is because Wisconsin ended up in the Orange Bowl instead of Bama. The difference is the Big Ten normally gets a spot in the Citrus but does not when it has a team in the Orange Bowl. That's the real reason MSU, NW, and Iowa all got bumped down 1 spot in the bowl pecking order.

Big Ten is the best conference this year.

Cornrich will leverage that into a new contract that not only includes a huge raise and extension . . . but language allowing Kirk to pick his successor.

What is your point? The B1G usually does play up because they have a team in the playoff. They didn't this year so the matchups were more even, and the conference is clearly taking advantage of that.

Also, since Notre Dame plays in the Citrus Bowl there was a second shift downward for the five lower ranked Big Ten bowl teams. (Michigan State, Michigan, Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue)

Tough order for Wiscy to go into Miami's home stadium, though.

I find it odd that both Miami and FAU get to play in their home stadiums for bowl games. Then again, Miami thrived on that during their heyday with copious Orange Bowl appearances...
I want Wisconsin to lose. I'm quite tired of them at this point.

My thought is that if the B1G goes 8-0 in bowls it strengthens the case that when its champion doesn’t get a chance at the national title the playoff needs to be expanded.

While the SEC, who is 0-3 I think has 2 teams in. So yes it does.

Edit, I just noticed Miss St won.

I believe it strengthens the argument that the committee should just pick the 4 best conference champions for the playoffs.

Even in some of the B1G's recent down years in terms of bowl games have they ever been as bad as the Pac 12 was this year?? 1-8 with the only bowl win coming against a West Virginia team missing its QB.

I in most years 4 of 5 P conferences play up. Its not an excuse for KF getting beat in past few years.

How could 4 of 5 P5 conferences all play up in the bowls when they play each other, that is a stat impossibility The Big 10 is really the only P5 conf with well traveling fan bases in the cold of winter so they travel to get some sun and warmth. ergo they get invited to bigger bowls to pay the big ticket prices and fill the stands. Iowa playing Mizzou and OU back to back in the Insight bowl was not playing up, I beg to differ. 2013 the hawks played up

2014 didnt play up but got spanked, 15 hawks earned playing in the Rose so didnt play up but got spanked, and 2016 the hawks probably didnt deserve playing in outback as they were the #5 ranked Big team in the conference and Florida was not great but way more athletic this time around.

You just made my point in re to p5. If 4 make it then they dont play up unless its a team from a conference that didnt make it.

Its just not a great excuse, but used a lot. Its silly.
