The problem is the sheer weight and speed of the players. The collisions are horrific.

Solutions:

1. Put a weight limit on the players?
2. Go back to single platoon football?
3. Shorten the games (in other words, limit the number of plays)?
4. Make the players play without any padding other than a helmet, similar to lacrosse???

I think a combination of these items might make the game safer

You could also make an argument that taking the helmet away would help. Without a helmet players probably would stop leading with their head.

I see football going to 7 on7 like they do in the summer.

You can regulate sport only so much. I think they have reached the limit in football. At least, the way it is played today.

I suspect that you are right in principle. Something has to change. However, I'm not sure the 7 on 7 alone is it. There is still so much risk of concussion, even in 7 on 7, particularly when played competitively. I don't know what the answer is, but maybe 7 on 7 will be a big part.

It will be fascinating to see if the changes will be able to keep the interest of the fans (and TV).

I feel for young people who suffer concussions but when athletes put the greed of money above their health I stop thinking of them as a victim. They have all gone to college and have been given an opportunity to get an education and have the opportunity to have a successful career outside of football.
