Concerns this year?

1 of mine is that QB Stanley, dependant last yr on his TE's, will try to force the ball to them out of habit, instead of looking to the wide-outs, which should be ready to take a big step up this year. Yours?

Iowa is a program that usually has good years when SRs are their best players. That landscape has changed completely. They’ve lost 6 underclassmen in the last two years and will be lucky if they only lose 3 more underclassman in next years draft.

Iowa is going to have to figure out a way to be a better team while having SOs & JRs as their best players.

My main concern is the offense. Running game should be better. WR's are experienced. But they need an inside receiver to keep the defense honest. If the WRs are ineffective, it's back to running into a stacked box again.

Very little pisses me off more than a bunch of "3 'n outs" on offense

Unless Goodson can come right in and play as a true F or the F from AL is the real deal, RB is the biggest concern. After Sargent, there isn't a proven RB that would play for many if any top 25 teams. Maybe IKM can come back strong if he can stay healthy?

Iowa always finds a safety or TE to step up and be a top tier B1G player.

The biggest concern is the running game. We didn’t run the ball effectively last year. We return the same group of backs from last year, none of which really sticks out, and we lose 2.5 offensive line starters.

We know our WR core is likely at best average and our TE group is going to take a step back, if we can’t run the ball better it’s very unlikely we will have an effective offense.

WR, without the elite TEs, I don’t really think Smith and ISM are really capable of shouldering the load of big plays needed to win games against teams that can’t be beat with pure physical dominance

In the past 15 years (as far back as can be readily searched on espn):

In Iowa's 5 most successful seasons, they've had top 20 defenses in both total yards and points allowed in every year, and in those same seasons, the best offense was in 2008, where they were 53rd in total yards/game and 33rd in points/game. On average in those 5 years, their defense was 12th in both yards/game allowed and point/game allowed, while their offense average was 81st in yards/game and 57th in points/game

In Iowa's 5 least successful seasons, they have had no season where their defense was both in the top 20 in total yards and points allowed. In 2007 they were 13th in points allowed, but 39th in yards/game allowed. In 2014, they were 19th in yards/game allowed but 41st in points allowed. In those 5 years, the offense was never in the top 20 in yards gained or points/game. On average in those 5 years, their defense was 47th in yards/game allowed and 35th in points/game allowed, while their offense average was 80th in yards/game and 80th in points/game.

The concern is will the defense be dominate again, because that is Iowa's path to success. The offense seems to just be a placeholder for the defense, in good years or bad. It would be nice for the offense to be a bigger contributor, but it doesn't seem to matter as much. If the offense is a lot better than typical, we'll be in for quite a year.

Fellow Finnster, a little bit of luck is part of any great season. I have a horseshoe, clover leaf, and dreamcatcher hanging from the rearview of my '92 cutlas supreme.

no rabbits foot?? no wonder we've not won a B1G title! it's your fault!!

Im concerned about our in game coaching.
Im concerned we play not to lose against directional U and lose.
