It does happen. And it sometimes happens when expectations are high, as ours were for this year with what we had coming back and with what some of the changes KF "kind of" made last year. We were hoping for more progression in what we saw last year (going for points at end of half was one of the biggest for me).
The issue most of us are having is that it's been a pattern with KF and let downs. It seems like when the chips are down, KF manages to pull out a decent season and tease us all with what can be (not saying 12-0 every year). Instead, we have gone so far backward this year that no one can figure out how the #%#% we won all of regular season games.
We are not OSU, MI, AL. But I think we can be MSU, WI, OK, hell, even NE before last year. Where barring major injuries or horrible off recruiting cycles, we finish at worst 8-4.
Know many of us bring it up, but WI and MSU have taken advantage of so many circumstances. OSU NCAA penalties, MI football being down to help with some success, but they continue to win 9-10-11 games a season....with the occasional stinker season thrown in.
I know I'd take WI results over ours the past 5-7 years. Same with MSU
What is our excuse for such average football when these schools have the same limitations as us? To me it comes down to recruiting and schemes/coaching. These other schools dont' accept 7-5 as good as it gets. They demand championships, and they have delivered on that (conference)
So yes while a down year does happen to a lot of schools, it seems like we have it more often than not. Our outlier is the good season.
