Comparing Withey and Woodbury

I bet the kids can dribble between their legs, jack threes, and dunk.:p

Yes, but we can match the threes..... Actually one guy was 75 and the youngins would lose him and then say 'where's the old guy.... as the 3 ball burned on re-entry. Straight out of a Bob Cousey video. In retirement the guy lived in a gym. He finally tore his acl. First time I've ever seen a grandpa/grandpa play on the same team and be tough to beat. Unreal.

Driving the lane is never done without pain.

I know you guys don't like the duffer, but he does have a point about AW....as does SSK

Comparing Woody to Withey is tough.

Withey: This is his 5th year...he is a 2008 who went to Arizona for his first semester, then transferred to KU and sat out a year.
He was the 36th rated recruit (8th center) in the 2008 class.

Woody will play 4 years straight. He was the 50th rated recruit(11th center) in the 2012 class.

So, Withey is a higher rated recruit, who had an extra year to develop. Not sure if Woody will ever catch up.

You should come watch my basketball league. You should watch the 60 yo's school good high school basketball players. I wouldn't discount Manning. Granted we play half court game, but almost always the old guys beat the young guys. The young guys don't block out well, don't see the court well, are not as physically strong, don't protect the ball, and don't move feet well.

It would be a huge advantage to play against Manning over someone who is developing.

Someday we might agree on something.

Unless he's in sensational shape, I'm owning any 60 year old man in your league. And yes I'm calling them on that nasty 'bumping his gross exposed sweaty chest against mine when completely unnecessary' move old men love to do at the gym.

This is awesome! Why do all old guys do that?

Am I supposed to take your word for it that in 3 years he will not be able to develop the 15 ft jumper. I agree I don't think he'll be an elite shot blocker, but he is a good shot altererererer (sp?). I think he can develop the jumper if he works on it. I see no reason why he can't.

Haha how can you agree on the shot blocking aspect but then turn around and say he can develop the jumper? I'm going off of what I see. How many 15 foot jumpers do you think he's taking in practice? Also, he's a 52% free throw shooter, which I was using as an indicator of his shooting form.

I think Woodbury can develop into the same type of player as Withey when it's all said and done. They are both very similar players.

Withey - 7'0' 235 lbs
Fr - 1.3 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 0.4 bpg
So - 2.3 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.7 bpg
Jr - 9.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 3.6 bpg
Sr - 13.6 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 4.0 bpg

Woodbury - 7'1 235
Fr - 4.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 0.7 bpg

Woodbury is getting a lot more time than Withey did his first two years at Kansas due to depth. This early experience should really help Woody. Withey also had to put a lot of time in the weight room when he came to Kansas and Woodbury needs to do the same.

I think this is an apt comparison. Most of us realized that Woodbury wasn't going to arrive in IC as a finished product and it would take time for him to develop. But watching him play, I see the basic tools and especially the mindset that will eventually serve him well. I think the numbers that Withey is putting up this year are very attainable by Adam.

Do you really only play a half court game? Like no back and forth? Just check up top? And you're bragging..

Woodbury will never be the same player as Withey, but I think his offensive game is far ahead of where Withey's ever will be. What also helped Withey is that he transferred from Arizona into Kansas, so he got to learn an extra year with zero pressure.

My feeling is that Woodbury is going to close to a double-double guy, but be a better scorer overall, he will not average the amount of blocks Withey does, but if he averages half of those, then I will take that all day. I really think Woodbury will be a 17+ pt scorer in his career. I think he will average around 12 next year and just continue to go up from there. He is too skilled offensively, he will develop that jumper at the top of the key and he is such a good passer that he will have to be guarded closely and then be able to take guys off the dribble.

In that league yes. I play full court games at another place. The youngins sometimes get lazy on full court more than the old guys.

Some of the high school kids that play start in a conference that has seen Simeon a couple of times on their courts and a number of other D1 recruits.

LOL, then they are not good highschool players.

The 60 yr olds you play with must be former NBA players and even then I have trouble believe they could beat good highschool players.

Now if you meant good highschool athletes thats completely different.

They played a 4/5 star's team to a 2 point game....thank you very much!

60 years old, come on really?? I'm sorry but your embellishing a bit. Playing half court is not real bball. And there's a reason the youngins are lazy in your other 'league'.....theyre tired from dunking and running all over the court while your old, sharp-elbowed body sits back, cherry picks and takes charges.

Seriously there are some pretty darn good 60 yo players out there. Played in DC this summer with a friend and a 50 something was really really good. My point was that I wish Danny Manning was playing against Woody.

And I wish Shaq and George Muresan were playing against him....just foxing with you Ilhawk.

So your telling me "good" highschool players are playing in a half court "league" against 60 yr olds?

Ive never heard of good highschool players, or anyone for that matter, even playing half court let alone a league.

The last time I saw anyone playing half court was in grade school.

Dont believe a word of it.
