Commits to Date

Appears to me the commitments to date are "preferred" recruits as opposed to "fall back" recruits which is encouraging. With about one-third of the 2013 recruiting class verballed this early in the process it appears the coaching staff is having a very good recruiting year.

Hopefully the class will fill out to be one of the better ones, maybe one of the best during Coach Ferentz tenure at Iowa.

I have to think the reshuffling of the coaching staff has something to do with the number of early verbal commitments.

Do you seriously believe we would be looking at "fall back" recruits a full 8 months before the signing date????

He had "fall back" in quotes to probably refer to them as a "level" of recruit. At least that's how I interpreted it.

the best part about seven commits right now is it tells hs players who are leaning Iowa that if they dont commit soon there might not be room.

Well he may simply be noting if these kids "committed" in late January after a full season of recruiting there are some who would indeed call them “fall backs”…..

This program has proven over time, early or late they know how to recruit period.

This time of the year, you are getting players you targeted. Offers you make based off junior film are not fall backs, they are targets. All of this before the Iowa camp, too...bodes well.

You better hope JD does not break out the hammer.

In past years, Iowa's early recruits didn't have many other BCS offers. The guys we are getting so far (save bazata) all have multiple BCS offers, and would likely have attracted some more attention from bigger schools as the recruiting process dragged on. This has the makings of a top 25 recruiting class, something we rarely see.

Sounds like coaches will hitting the road again this week in Ohio.

tOSU already has 13 commits and is also facing a scholly reduction. Michigan is also pretty full as well. With that said, Ohio is a very fertile recruiting hotbed. If those two schools are filled up it leaves Ohio ripe for the picking.

agreed. schools filling up early in these states is good for schools like iowa that have to recruit majority of their players out-state.
