If it has to do with him coaching under his dad, then he shouldn't have taken the job. He needs to be who he wants to be and let the chips fall where they may. I don't have a problem with him going off on a expletive tirade, but I do have a bit of a problem with him doing it to a Big 10 official in this particular context, on a call that they seem to have gotten right (or at least not obviously wrong). The first is a style thing (although knowing your audience helps), the second is just not being smart.
I agree, the idea that working in such a high profile position effectively reporting to his dad had very little chance for working out with no significant conflict or issues. But I don't put as much responsibility on BF for that working relationship as I do KF. I don't care how close they are to each other as dad and son, the HC and OC relationship is vastly different and that is the issue at hand. I don't know how well they established expectations for each other, but it would not be the first example of misaligned expectations if they are not effectively communicating with each other.
Let's face it, KF is not an expert in communication, thus it's not hard to believe that there has been at least some misunderstanding between the HC and OC. Maybe it's even worse than what we're led to believe. Anyway, let's just say that BF's outburst had more behind it than just the first half officiating in the Minnesota game. That's not hard to accept, and if KF and GB have any management ability whatsoever, they should have explored all sources of BF's frustration and determined how best to address them.
Like I said, it may work out for good if it is handled properly, but I will reserve judgment on that being the case, at least for now. I expected some conflict to raise its head when he made the OC appointment, the real issue is can any differences in expectations be effectively addressed before it boils over again.
