Come to terms with my Nebraska hate...

You know...I really don't want to hate anyone or anything. I think it's negative energy and is a waste of time/effort. I don't like to give such things any power over my thoughts or mood. In other words, I want Nebraska Football to own no real estate in my brain. Black Friday makes this an impossibility.

As a kid growing up and watching Tom Osborn's version of Nebraska Football, I didn't really give them much thought. I respected the program, enjoyed watching the rivalry with Oklahoma. and truly didn't think or care about their place in college football history. I felt no jealousy nor any thoughts of ill will. They weren't a team Iowa competed against regularly, even when we were playing them. :)

Then 1981 happened and Iowa's upset of Nebraska opened a window or view into the Nebraska fan base and psyche. The way they disrespected that 1981 team by not giving them any credit for the victory...planted the seed that would blossom into a strong hate for anything Nebraska.

When they joined the Big Ten, the sheer audacity of the predictions of dominance and the inevitable discussion of THE BIG THREE (OSU, Michigan, & Nebraska) was almost too much to bear. Once again, the arrogance that the Big Ten wasn't a daunting conference and Nebraska's speed and athletes would dominate...was shocking to the knowledgeable fan. In the B10, you had a play your A game almost every week, not just a few times a season...and you had to be physical. The Nebraska fan base delusion was introduced to me like a blind date with a great personality...you survive it, but want it to end as quickly as possible.

The fact that the B10 Network pundits stoked the fire of the Nebraska of yesteryear during their preseason coverage only fuels how much I hate them. They all bought in hook, line, and sinker. Scott Frost has proven to be more PT Barnum than Tom Osborne at this point. Deep down, you know they don't respect Iowa, even after losing 5 of the last 6 to the lowly Hawkeyes.

Winning the last four in a row has been great...but it's not enough. It's not enough to cherish the fact that they are fighting for bowl eligibility. It's imperative to keep them from it.

The OP's description of Nebby football before they joined the Big 10 is about exactly how I felt. I only thought about Nebby football back then when they occasionally played Iowa, or they had the big game or two in the old Big 8/then Big 12, or when they played the clowns sometimes (because they would usually kill the clowns). When Nebby played intersectional games or bowl games I usually pulled for them against teams from the south because a win by Nebby would make northern football seem stronger and better.

But now I have a dislike for Nebby as the big division competitor. I wouldnt say I hate them put I really pull against them in almost all their Big 10 games because I do not want them to get back to being really strong.

When Iowa plays them of course I want at least a two score victory and mostly more than that.

You obviously didn't grow up in western Iowa.

I wouldn't have such an issue with Nebraska if they were actually still relevant and were a good program. I mean arrogant fans of good programs have a reason to be arrogant. Nebraska fans have ZERO reasons being arrogant, or even talking about the past as it is as relevant as Minnesota's dominate back in the day, or Miami's dominance as well. Iowa has been on Nebraska's and Miami's level for nearly 20 years now.

Wins from '01-'19 (Iowa 156, Miami 156, Nebraska 149).

I can't stand them. Not when it comes to football anyway. I read this thread and wasn't going to even bother to respond, then I was on book face and saw a post from btn and read the comments. Make no mistake their fans, their entire program think they are better than us. Just a bunch of classless big mouths.
I hope our defense lays a beating on them.
I hope our offense pounds them into the dirt.

Nebraska reminds me of every fucking helicoptor parent out there. They are a god damn nuisance who thinks their shit doesn't stink and, " how dare you talk about me or my kid like that". Well, Scott Frost, I am and I really don't care for you, your staff, players, and any fan of the program. You are not good, you don't deserve any special treatment, and most of all you really have no place in the B1G

I grew up in NE Iowa and didn't give Nebraska a thought when growing up. Moved to Mason City and at least one of my son's teachers actually played for the 'skers during St. Devaney's time. Neighbors went to UNL. Quite the fanbase in North Iowa. But yeah, their glory days are over, at least until they find a way to move their state in between Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I was No. 2 in a Des Moines office where the boss was a Nebraska fan. Total dick. Everything Big Red, how bad the state of Iowa and the Hawks were. Tom Osborn was god. Had a framed poster of a red-filled Husker stadium in his office.

He also was an alcoholic who managed to alienate our client base and just about everyone on the staff. Didn’t take much prodding from me for HQ to show him the door.
