Colten Rastetter Welcomes Competition

I see you conspicuously skipped his junior year...

Coluzzi was brought in before Rastetter shit the bed so that’s out.

So...you said there were three punters brought in four years when there was only one—Sleep-Dalton. Coluzzi doesn’t count, and Gersonde...well...I don’t know what to say to that. You’re asking us to believe that Iowa had the two worst punters in all of FBS on the roster at one time (if Gersonde was superior why didn’t he play?)

Doesn’t add up no matter how you try to frame it. Part of uncle Brucie’s donation the past few years went towards the Punter Retention Fund.
I agree with you that not fixing the punting problem was a fail by the coaching staff last year. As to why they didn't bring in a grad transfer lats year, I don't know, maybe there simply wasn't anyone available. When they brought in Coluzzi, Rastetter had been on campus for a year redshirting, so the coaches knew what they had in him. Yet they still went out and got Coluzzi. You seem to also be ignoring the fact that during the 2017 season, Gersonde had replaced Rastetter as the starting punter for several games before he got hurt. Why he wasn't better than Rastetter last year, I don't know.Sometimes players just don't pan out.
If Rastetter is being given special treatment because of his uncle, why isn't he on scholarship?

Rastetter to Brincks for the Iowa TD!!!! That was balls.

I remember this play like it was yesterday...it was like a dream...and in my dream he threw to Kluver. My initial thoughts were, "what the hell is Ferentz doing, kick the damn field goal...points...points...points. Then, shit they are going to hand it to Epenesa running across the field. Then, holy crap Rastetter is going to throw it, for sure it's going to be short and out of bounds. After the TD, I looked at my wife and said aliens have body snatched our football coach."

No, punters or QBs typically hold. They are used to catching snaps. Punters have lots of free time on their hands, allowing them to master that similar, secondary skill. It is nice to have someone back there in Rastetter who actually has fairly high-end athleticism.

And a 1.000 completion percentage.

That's why I've said for the past 2 years that there should have been some open tryouts on campus or Woods should have at least thrown a text to the soccer coach.

Absolute, undisputed, dead-last in FBS punting in the two year span.
Kirk was busy working on landing a tight end recruit for the 2030 class

The coaches tried to bring in a grad transfer punter last offseason. It just didn’t come together. They thought they had a good chance with Parker Thome, a Wisconsin native, who ended up at Vanderbilt. I talked to him back then and Iowa definitely was in play for him.

He has a nice year at Vandy.

almost for the TD, if only he had a little more distance on it.

I thought I read somewhere (maybe even here) that Gersonde was punting and then got hurt when Rastetter took over. (hip flexor?)

I was hoping to see Gersonde take over as a freshman, since he supposedly had a pretty big leg. 2 years later, one has to wonder if the injury is still lingering (I know it was a back injury, which has to suck), or if he's just not panning out like the coaches hoped.
