Colten Rastetter Welcomes Competition

I'm getting the vibe Rastetter knows he's punted his last punt in an Iowa uni.

I smell a transfer if he's graduated already.

Still a holder, he still has a role. He seems like a team guy who will do whatever it is he can do to support the success of the team (judgement based upon his quotes, so take it for what it's worth).

Kickers usually hold for kickers at Iowa though, am I right?

No, punters or QBs typically hold. They are used to catching snaps. Punters have lots of free time on their hands, allowing them to master that similar, secondary skill. It is nice to have someone back there in Rastetter who actually has fairly high-end athleticism.

That's why I've said for the past 2 years that there should have been some open tryouts on campus or Woods should have at least thrown a text to the soccer coach.

Absolute, undisputed, dead-last in FBS punting in the two year span.

This is what has held Iowa athletics back in both major sports. One coach can’t recruit the point guard needed to take the program to the next level.

The other coach can’t seem to recruit a speedster who can run and catch the football. Also for the most part the offensive production has been mediocre. Most of that stems from recruiting average to below average QB’s who are game managers at best. They just seem to be good enough to methodically move the offense up and down the field UNTIL it really matters. A wide open receiver against Penn State late in the fourth quarter that likely would have sealed the win, but the ball is poorly thrown (choking) and uncatchable. Great QB’s make that throw without a problem. Hopefully this season he will finally settle down and be the consistent QB Iowa needs especially in crunch time. Put the nail in the coffin against the other team. We all know he has the.capability he just needs the consistency and composure to make that big pass at critical times. With two NFL TE’s gone from the team that could make things a little more challenging. Why has our offense been such a dead weight to Kirk’s teams?

There isn't a lot of subjectivity to punting. Either you can kick the ball a long ways or you can't. It does make sense that he could still hold for the kicker since he's been pretty good at it the past two years. Don't forget his pass in the OSU game as well.

That’s the exact reason I put on my tin hat and said there had to be a conspiracy going on there with his name being Rastetter. I’m serious.

Any other team on the planet would have scoured the earth for a grad transfer (or someone on the Iowa soccer team), especially after the positive experience with Coluzzi.

When Rastetter was a freshman ,they brought in Coluzzi. When Rastetter was a sophomore, they offered another punter a scholarship. (Gersonde) Now for Rastetter's senior year, they bring in Sleep-Dalton.If there was a conspiracy to have Rastetter be the punter, why did they bring in three other punters in the four years he was here?

I see you conspicuously skipped his junior year...

Coluzzi was brought in before Rastetter shit the bed so that’s out.

So...you said there were three punters brought in four years when there was only one—Sleep-Dalton. Coluzzi doesn’t count, and Gersonde...well...I don’t know what to say to that. You’re asking us to believe that Iowa had the two worst punters in all of FBS on the roster at one time (if Gersonde was superior why didn’t he play?)

Doesn’t add up no matter how you try to frame it. Part of uncle Brucie’s donation the past few years went towards the Punter Retention Fund.

Don't recall exactly, but I went through the final averages and there were over (20) punters in Iowa high schools alone that averaged more yards per punt than Rastetter did. I'm sure he's a great teammate and a great kid, but come on!
With so much emphasis on field position, I shake my head as to why our coaches chose to settle for mediocre.
