for the NW suburban(Chi) paper Daily Herald,Lindsey Wilhite was on the Score today talking about the coaching market and Depaul...and mentioned he heard some whispers that Ben Howland of UCLA might just be a bit restless....hmmm,interesting. He did say it sounded crazy, but I am sure that Howland is getting some heat..afterall,it is UCLA,and he has not won a title in a few years.
He has plenty of top talent committed for the next couple of years, tho,so I suspect might just be leveraging for a contract sweetner...I do not think UCLA pays top dollar and as a state school, you wonder if the Ca. budget crisis is a concern.
As I looked at some top 150 lists, one thing that is apparent is that Craig Robinson of Oregon St, has a strong recruiting presence in the midwest, particularly Ill, and Wis. Since he arrived two years ago,he has gotten 7 top 150 players to commit to Oregon St. and had a visit from Sam Thompson of Whitney Young(Chi) HS (top 50),a teammate of 2010 Oregon St commit Ahmad Starks(top 135). Of course, his sister, Michelle Obama, is a Whitney Young grad,so that might help, and a pipeline to even just that one school could be pretty beneficial. Whitney Young frosh starting center, Tommy Hamilton ,6'10'' 250 lbs, is sure to be one of the top recruits in his class.
I know that Robinson has only been at Oregon St for two years and they just extended him,but I still wonder if it is worth a pass at him just to see if he might want to be much closer to home and family back in the midwest.
Brian Gregory is another guy who seems to recruit the gamut...has a Simeon HS top 135 player coming next year as well as a Top 50 kid from Oak Hill.
