Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on earth

Re: Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on e

I can't ever recall being next to someone who was remotely intelligent who bitched about the play calling. Usually it's some fat drunken slob who somehow thinks the dozens of games he's seen from his awesome north endzone seats where you can see the plays develop* make him an authority on play calling. They almost always drop the "CALL A PASS" after a one yard gain on a running play, and two plays later are screeching for a run after an incomplete pass or a sack. I really like when they ***** about the "conservative" play calls after JVB checks down to an underneath route on a 3rd and 9 despite the fact the three or four other receivers are running routes down field. My personal favorite though is when we get stuck in a 3rd and 20 type situation and we run some screen, draw, or safe underneath route cause lets face it, there ain't much in a playbook designed to get you 20, especially when the other team knows we need 20 to get the first. This last guy is totally bolivous to the game situation as well. There was one next to me in the bar on Saturday on that 3rd and 20 from the UNI 40. We ran some underneath route that ended up getting us into FG position (one that we made). He didn't see that field goal because he was too busy storming off the the bathroom (after slamming his glass on the bar) because we ran "a play that had no chance to get a first down", but that field goal put us in position to win the game.
What I find irritating is people who purport to being intelligent by criticising others while yielding the only tool they know how to use.
How did you know I was holding my weiner while I was typing this? Scary...
You type one handed? You might have some talent after all.

during a relatively short compulsive/obsessive period (from age 13 to 34) I learned to do almost everything one handed.

"Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone". Duff, I'm sure we go back through the threads we can find something about KOK's play selection that you found objectionable.

I have to admit I came unglued a little Saturday at some play selection. In our drive prior to Bullock's td, we moved the ball about 35 yards on three running plays into NIU territory. It was apparent the OL was on a roll, NIU looked a little gassed and out of sync, then we proceed to throw the ball on first down. To make matters worse, JVB targets Weisman for what would have been no gain. Now we are in the down and distance that had given us trouble all day...guess what...we continued to have trouble and punt the ball. Now the punt worked out...but I'll never understand that play call on first and ten.

We had time to pound them, we were having success pounding the ball, and at that juncture, in my mind, it becomes you have to stop the best we got today...and put the game in the OL hands.

I actually flashed back to Minnesota last year...3rd and 4 at the Minny 25 yard line, we have an OL that had been dominate, our running back has 240 yards, and we do a 5 step drop where JVB gets blindsided and fumbles. If there was ever two down territory...there you have it.

I'm not sure you can ever get out of second guessing the OC. It's just part of the equation.

When do you turn 35?

To the OP, have you seen "PeopleofWalmart.com?" That should settle the arguement.

I like the direction this thread has turned.

I would agree and this is well thought out. I was wondering the same thing on that drive. It was driving me nuts.

I don't pretend to understand the nuances of football. On game day I pretty much just sink into a catatonic state on my couch while I watch the players crash into each other as saliva and bratwurst juice leak out of the corners of my mouth.

the world would be a better place if 90 of this board did exactly that.

feel free to go back I don't think you'll find it.

this critique is exactly what I'm talking about. the play action pass after running the ball down the other teams throat has been a staple of the Iowa offense for years. it's also something we have been very successful at. that particular play was designed to get to guys deep down the field and let Iowa want take a shot at the end zone. the vertical passing game is just what the people on this board were screaming 4. the fullback was just a safety valve. because " it didn't work" you are b******* about the call. nevermind the fact it was a perfectly reasonable call. rest assured if he had called a running play some other idiot would be b******* equally loud to call a passing play.

Hey duff, that was me sitting next to you. You obviously dont know I was a top notch O Cord. in my previous life and have several NC rings. I know what I was talking about.

I agree with Duff. This is something Iowa has done for a long time.....set up pass with the run.
This time it didn't work for whatever reason, but the play action pass in this scenario has produced big gains or possibly a TD.
If it would have been a TD we would all be saying JVB is awesome.

Still a good aggressive call by Greg Davis. It just didn't work this time.

Re: Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on e

What about the guy who yells "watch out for the FAKE!" on every single punt or FG attempt?

The 0.5% of the time that a fake is run, he is a genius and the rest of us are stupid.

Re: Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on e

I don't think it's always unwarranted. It's just that the majority of the people ******** couldn't find thier *** with both hands when it comes to football. They think it's a bad call cause it didn't work. Never mind the QB made a bad read, or someone whiffed on a block, or a defender just made a hell of a play.

I enjoy the people who think that football is really, really complicated.

Re: Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on e

Hey Duff--

Does your criticism extent to those who praise play calls, as well?

It would seem that if one is unqualified to criticize a play call, one would also be unqualified to praise a play call.

for the most part yes. 98% of fans have no business commenting on playcalling. they should stand up and cheer when we score and after the game is over if we have won. thats all they are intellectually qualified to do.

Are you a short man with really small hands or something. You make these sweeping judgements like you are omnipotent or something. I actually think most of the Iowa fanbase is pretty football literate. You always have your morons, but not 98% of the fan base fits that bill.

Great point that after pounding the ball, it sets up play action. I would have never come up with that on my own. My question is, how had that been going for us in the second half, Duff. Not very well, because NIU was taking away anything over the top or in the seams. I can't believe that Weisman wasn't the the primary, what's a safety value or check down receiver? No **** Sherlock...but thanks for clarifying. My point was that JVB checked down because what wasn't there the whole game, wasn't there again or JVB didn't want to force something and risk a turnover in that position.

My other point is that you don't have to be a moron to disagree with the call. Running the ball in that position, to me, was the better option as we didn't want to be in a 2nd and long or third and long...which is what happened. We had the upper hand with the ground game, we should have continued to exploit it. And how did we finally score the winning touchdown...we ran the ball...at least that's what I remember anyway.

Re: Collectively people that ***** about poor play calling are among the dumbest on e

You are right, I probably phrased that poorly. What I meant to say was 98% of people are morans compared to me.
