Cold, cloudy and wet weather blues? I just watched the last 7 wins against Nebby!!!

It cured me and that was just 2 nights ago on Monday watching the YouTube highlights. Then went golfing yesterday in slightly brisk but bright sunny, low wind conditions and that was great.

How did the hawks get such mastery over the former Big Red? Well, Kirk's formula of not making mistakes, playing great defense, field position with special teams, and winning the turnover battle is a huge part of it. Of course, the only loss in the last 8 games was a game that Iowa had total control of through 50 minutes even while having 3 or so INTs. But you remember the poor punt coverage and other mistakes led to coughing up a victory.

Well it is just great watching these 7 wins. And imagine if Iowa had a middle of the road offense. They probably would have beat Nebby in every game since Nebby joined the Big.

The last few games that were close would have been no contest.

Got to love the hawk players.

If you just get out of their way, a Scott Frost led Bugeater team will beat itself almost every time.

Anyone following Nebbie knows that after Spring Ball they have had surprising departures on the offensive and defensive lines. Those two groups were huge question marks before the departures. The defense especially has lost a lot of pieces from last year's pretty good squad. It is difficult to see how the defense won't be worse.

The offense lost its only playmaker in Martinez. But he was also a turnover machine, so maybe the transfer for Texas will be an upgrade. The OL is thin and partially unproven and the skill positions are fine, but nothing to write home about. They are also breaking in a new offensive staff, OC, and offensive system.

Nebbie fans have two things to pin their hopes on: a softer schedule and the law of averages dictating they are due for some good fortune. Beyond that, they look 5-7 to 7-5 on paper. 6-6 buys Frost another season.

Nice writeup and I had not seen they had players depart this spring. Yikes, that has to say a lot about a suspect environment. But hard to say if they can pick up a couple of really good transfers. Nebby players just have to be hating all the new coaches in the carousel as well as whether Frost will be there from year to year or week to week. haha

Look at what Levis and Wan'dale Robinson did for Kentucky's offense and I am sure Robinson might have helped Nebby win a game or two more last year.

Nebbie is combing the portal big time and has had some decent names on campus. Certainly they have gotten some quality QBs in to replace Martinez. No question there. But beyond QB, not seeing a lot of difference makers transfer in. They have lost far more than they have gained in the transfer portal. I am sure they will backfill the spots they need, but with marginal talent.

Especially in football, it is really hard to keep turning over a roster and expect success. The talent that has walked out the door on Frost is pretty astounding. I agree it speaks to a weak culture.

Yes, a program like Nebby that has been and is floundering will get some good qbs because those players know if they win any kind of championship they can write their own ticket in Lincoln and the state. Win a Big 10 championship and you are a god. win a Natty, haha, and you are supreme god of all the universes.

How about they get to bowl eligible and not losing to Troy before kids start dreaming of writing their tickets. Hee hee

There is nothing special about Nebraska, the state, or the football team, at this point. These young players have not experienced their history or success and prob don't care. Nebraska has found out how difficult it is to recruit to Nebby (midwest) and they are a mediocre program. Tough to swallow for them but it is what it is at this point. I wonder if their fans can finally acknowledge that instead of looking stupid every year.

That tweet is telling. Nebraska in sports is last in the BIG for winning % of many sports. Of course, the fan in the thread doesn't want to hear it.

I think Nebraska still has some juice as a program and remains a sleeping giant (albeit maybe in a coma by now). They have the best fan support of any program outside of OSU and the SEC. They have very good facilities. And while the trophies are getting dusty, they can still walk kids through and talk about the return of the glory years.

If you really dig in, recruiting has not been the biggest problem. Frost was getting Top 25 classes his first few years on campus. That turned big time last year and this year is not looking better, but he was getting good kids to come to Lincoln.

The problem is simply a shitty culture. He is an entitled and arrogant dick, and that is the culture he has created. They don't work hard, they don't have attention to detail, and they think they are just entitled to win because of the N on the jersey. Because of that culture he has lost a lot of his talent to the portal and they have lost more close games than any team in modern history. Culture matters. Frost sucks.
