Cody Sokal is better than Jake and JR.

I've watched Cody three times this year and he's hands down the better QB of the three. He is a gamer that can make all the throws and his TD stats are obscene. What was our coaching staff looking at while he was at Iowa? Kinda like the freshman that came in and had Iowa's first 100 yard rushing game. I have never seen him on the field again.

watching LA tech play Rice today as a matter of fact. Cody having a great day with two TD passes in first half. Good thing he spent time at Iowa to learn what not to do to be successful

It's an unfair comparison. Rudock would light it up too if he played teams like Rice, ISU, Ball State....

Seriously though, Rudock probably would be pretty darn good if he played for coaches with any offensive imagination at all.

Good coaches, good bosses, good leaders, do not consistently put subordinate's in a position to fail. This is not about Jake, its about a fat and happy coach who has embezzled millions out of the U of I pretending to be a leader and a coach

We have had a lot worse QB's than Jake but it is a matter of finding that one that has the best skills and moxy to make the plays that put you over the top in tough match ups and close games.

How many that attended the open practices came back saying Jake looked the worst of the three? Many were raving about Sokol and thought CJ had the best arm of the group. Low and behold Jake wins that 3 way race. Knowing his character and intelligence we know why he was selected but he was not the best of the three.

Decisions like these are the difference between being average at best and having a special season. When your coach has an iron clad contract he is under no pressure to win games for the fan base.

Maybe.

But here's the reality. Sokol lit it up in high school - Juco All-American. Now maybe the best in his conference. Basically, he has passed every test where he was given a fair chance. Jake was awesome in high school and underwhelming at Iowa. Those arguments I had with people on message boards who assured me Rudock was CLEARLY better, was horse manure. We'll never know how good Sokol could've been. But every time he was given a chance with an audience other than Kirk, he showed himself quite well. One thing you and I can agree on, Kirk has hindered Jake more than helped.

Sunshine and Sokol both have far superior arm strength vs Riddick.

We shouldn't be surprised that Snort chose the less talented guy. He's made that a habit.

Good for him. Iowa is the kiss of death for any kid playing WR or QB.

Now on the other hand if they are an OL, they are stupid if they dont come to IA.

Watching Sokol today it all made sense. Sokol has long hair like CJ. On top of that, he has tattoos all down his arm. No way captain clean lets someone like that play under his rule no matter how good they are. LOL

You know how people that are racist already have a preconceived opinion of someone by looking at them and there is nothing that can be done to change it? It's like that with Kirk but it's not about color of skin, it's about how players look and carry themselves. If a player has long hair or tats, or have a certain arrogance about them, they are fighting a huge uphill battle to overcome that preconceived opinion.

Sure they might get into the game if there is simply no one else even close to their ability. But if the compition is even close, Kirk will always go with the clean cut white kid.

Think about it. Has there ever been a single time where the "internet legend" was a white guy and the "good story" starting ahead of him was a black guy? I guess you can argue that the only reason they are internet legends is because of fans preconceived opinion of black players, but I doubt that's the case.

Again, this post isn't about Kirk not liking black people. It's about him not liking the persona that comes with a lot of people that come from intercity areas. And that small distain he has, no matter how small it is, clouds his judgement when picking which player starts in a close compitition.

It's not just the difference between intercity kids and iowa kids either. Obviously kids from California have different attitudes then your typical iowa kid. Kirk just doesn't do well with different personallities in my opinion. Maybe he's just scorn from the "city boyz".

All I know is KF really screwed us. He could have had 2 seasons of Sokol who could have handed the reins to CJ for 2 more giving 4 potential excellent years of QB play.

I also agree with PC Hawk that he does not like players who have any charisma or look. Now we are the SOFT-eyes.

I can see how it would be difficult to not take personality into account when judging a player, but no D1 coach worth a damn would do it. At least not to the extent that Kirk does.

Lulz. Epic troll, brah. Rudock sure lit it up against Ball State and ISU! I nearly spit water on my screen when I read your post. Keep these hits coming!

I think you're looking too deep on this. It's not about culture and persona as much as it's about perceived low risk. Culture and persona are components of that to be sure but I think perceived risk aversion is the overriding factor.

Emphasis on. "perceived" cuz it's usually a load of crisp.

Kirk Ferentz needs to get over the idea that we can afford to play a game manager at Iowa. It just takes too much talent at the other positions to overcome mediocre and conservative QB play.

Hayden Fry did a much better job with QB's. A lot of times Fry's QBs were able to mask weaknesses at other positions. It's the opposite under KF.
