Coach's Assistant/Secretary Poll is out.

"Mike Hlas said: On September 6, 2011
The reason the polls were created was to sell newspapers. Don’t forget that.

I watch as many games as I can. This was a good week to do that with games on every night from Thursday through Monday and Iowa playing a day game on Saturday.

I fully realize my ballot is ripe for ridicule. I’ve seen other peoples’ ballots this morning and felt the same way. But this stuff will sort itself out midway through the season after everyone has played some real competition, home and away."

It's way too early in the season for meaningful polls, so I will give Hlas credit for publishing his ballot and explaining his reasoning.

NW is getting more votes than Iowa, mainly because Mike Hlas voted them #14.
My AP Top 25 ballot: 1. LSU | TheGazette

Also Notre Dame is still getting votes somehow.

Idiots like this shouldn't have a ballot, South Florida at #5 because they won at Notre Dame, for Christ Sakes Tulsa and Michigan won at Notre Dame last year. He needs to watch more college football to realize beating Notre Dame in South Bend isn't like it use to be.

And Baylor at #6 because TCU was ranked #2 in the final poll last year. Hey ******* this isn't the same TCU team that finished #2 last year. If that was the case why didn't he vote Utah St in the top 25 because they should have beaten Auburn who finished #1.

West Virginia?? Really?!? They struggle at home with a crap Marshall squad and they're elevated into the top 25?

Polls are funny this time of year. I generally ignore them. However, NW is probabaly worthy of the respect at this point. They beat BC on the road without their starting QB. Not too shabby.

edit: maybe #25 kind of respect, not #15.

Schools probably buy votes. Because while trying to have a poll in the first few weeks is stupid, it is meaningful. Teams generally don't go from unranked to #5 overnight. They have to climb the ladder. If you haven't cracked the top 25 after the first three weeks, chances are greatly diminished that you'll make a top 3 ranking, even going undefeated. Those that start at the top have a better chance. So if you spend a little money now to buy some votes, you might make it into a better bowl game and get more money later on.

Yeah, man. I'm moving in with BTR and Ma.

Seriously, I've been to a lot of these NW vs. Iowa games (last year included). They're a tough team that doesn't get enough credit. It hasn't been a total fluke every year for Iowa. They just get beat.

Trust me, though. I would LOVE to see Iowa destroy NW this year. More than you know...

Dude, I can't stand Fitz, but his teams out tough my hawks every year. So, I guess I'll be singing NW's praises until we hammer them.

My old method didn't work. I thought that each successive year was a fluke. overandoverandover again.

Iowa beats jNWU in Kinnick this season. I promise.

You're brave...based on recent history, I would be reluctant to make any such promise myself.

Confidence, my friend, confidence. Plus, it's the only home game I'm able to make this season, so they have to win for me. The Hawks OWE me; last two games I've attended in Kinnick were losses. :(

 Umm, this is a good reason to keep you out of Kinnick, yo.
