coaches poll week 8 IOWA 12

Re: coaches pol week 8 IOWA 12

Hilarious Wisconsin fans got to be screaming. You can't pass the team you just beat OSU 10th, Wisconsin 11th.

I'm surprised Ohio State dropped to 10th, I had them pegged at 8th. Alabama lost by 14 on the road to a moderately ranked opponent (South Carolina at 20th) and only dropped to 8th. I'm also surprised after LSU's lackluster performance last night plus a lot of close wins they jumped to 6th.

I'm not so sure. Alabama didn't get passed up by S. Carolina last week. #1's are usually given enough respect that if they lose, they are still a top tier team. 1 place shouldn't make Wisky cry. They still have a few games to play and a big ten loss just 2 weeks ago. They were 18th already. I think they were lucky to jump Iowa, but that should right itself after this week's game.

That's why human polls are stupid -- especially the Sports Information Directors (coaches) poll. But if that's true, AZ should be ranked ahead of Iowa.

It all depends on when you lose. That's why human polls are stupid, too.

OSU losing really hurts us in the polls. Why? Because we really won't have the chance to get that excessive reward for beating them if they were #1 compared to if they are #7 or 8 when we play them.

Beat the #1 team? Wisconsin goes from #16 to #11. South Carolina went from #20 to #12.

Yes, we'll move up regardless as long as we win our games, but even a #6 or so MSU isn't going to do it for us.

LSU will be exploited in upcoming games. As someone on this board throughout a week ago, LSU may be this year's 2009 Iowa team. Those SEC teams ahead of us all are yet to play one another, just like the 4 team Big Ten cluster. Glad Iowa jumped Stanford. Should be interesting to see what the BCS poll looks like tonight.

why does it matter.....we arent playing for a national title anymore so the Rose Bowl is the goal. If for some reason we get shafted on the crazy Rose Bowl rules this year winning out will still get us a BCS game so the polls dont even matter so we can stop worrying about the BCS crap every week.

So not true. With so many top teams losing, we are still in the NC run. It might be a long shot, but it is not impossible.

If we win out, we will be 11-1, ranked in the top 5 and I think we would have a legitimate shot at being ranked higher. This depends mainly on other's viewpoints and help from some other teams. For now, we still have a very legitimate shot at the NC game, don't kid yourself!

If we win this week the one loss teams will start stacking behind Iowa. Alabama will be one 1 team ahead of Iowa.

We need Oregon to lose (will be tough, but play @USC, @ Cal, Arizona and @ Oregon St.)
We need Oklahoma to lose (can see this happening easily, 4 of there 6 games have been close, would have to face Nebby most likely.)
We need no undeafeted SEC team and Alabama to lose one more.( I believe there won't be an undeafeted team in the SEC, just hope Alabama trips up again.)

If the above happens and we win out. We are in with out question.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bsu loses some how than I think we only need two of the the above things to happen. I do not think they will let TCU in. I still have a hard time believing they would let boise in, but after this coaches poll, they probably will.

With 6 weeks left, it can happen.

Going into yesterday, the two teams were separated by 17 spots in the polls (#1 vs. #18). That would be a big jump for Wisconsin and a huge drop for OSU to drop below Wisconsin based on the outcome of one game.

I was looking at the coaches who vote for this poll and don't see Kirk. Does anyone know why he doesn't get a say in things or does he just not care?

I see what you're saying, but having the opportunity to beat three BCS ranked teams will be great. We didn't expect MSU to be where they are at. These are big challenges and opportunities ahead of the hawks.

Let's rock Kinnick!!!
