Coaches hot seat rankings.

I know there's a love/hate debate with Kirk Ferentz as our Head coach. I've linked the coaches hot seat rankings. I'm wondering what everyone thinks about KF if he has a successful season this year. I'm on record as preferring a new coach but I was surprised at the changes he made in our first game. It was a refreshing change. Thoughts?

7+ wins with a win against isu, he's probably safe, but most, me included, won't be happy. Not this year and not with this schedule. A solid bowl win would help some but would still feel dissappointing.

8+ wins, winning when we should, just a shad more offense (excitement, aggression ) would meet most expectations. 9+ with the above and I would think most would be happy(or at least satisfied), especially with a solid bowl performance.

6 or fewer wins and a loss to isu, or embarrassing loss or 2, I think he could go, and probably should.

That has to be one of the most ridiculous lists ever compiled. They have Les Miles, Bob Stoops, Steve Spurrier and and Kevin Sumlin in the their top 30. Ferentz is at #12.

It's ridiculous.

I would so much rather Kirk change and play some exciting football than get a new coach. His nac for getting guys in the NFL is something that we could really take advantage of if it's coupled with exciting football, aggressive recruiting, and the new facilities. That said, I would rather take my chances with any random Joe Blow than keep boring conservative Kirk.

Yeah Paul Rhoades at #1? After selling out their opener. After a dismal season, which is unprecedented. I'd say that still shows a lot of enthusiasm by the fan base, which is just odd. But he certainly isn't on the hot seat in Ames.

The new facilities are certainly giving us a bump in recruiting and hopefully get us some quality recruits. However, college football is an arms race. All BIG schools are flush with TV money and it won't be long before every school has its own new shiny facilities that will surpass ours. Ferentz appears he has learned and willing to implement changes to his old tried routine. Now we need to see the wins .

People writing blogs and things like Bleacher report have removed all credibility from the things they post. The truth and well written articles are mostly a thing of the past. Shock value to get page hits so advertising rates can be raised seems to be the norm. Like everything else the greed for money drives everything. You can once in awhile find a good blog but for every good one you'll wade through twenty bad ones to get to it.

He made another set of rankings. Funny how things can change. Stay tuned to next year's rankings. ;)

19. Kirk Ferentz, Iowa (36): Ferentz had been quite successful for some time at Iowa, but before the 2015 season, things had been pretty average for five straight years as the Hawkeyes averaged 6.8 wins and only managed to finish higher than fourth in the division once. Well, a 12-2 season and a Rose Bowl berth go a long way to restoring some of your reputation.

Ok what other set of rankings did he make it in?? please tell us

In this original thread, he was one of the top coaches on the hot seat. Now he's one of the top coaches in CFB. The link in the OP is constantly updated, so he's no longer on that list.

Kirk will leave when he wants to leave. Iowa Football is on a wave of excellence on the field (record) and in recruiting. Enjoy the present.

I love our "But, what have you done for me today?" society. Me: Season ticket holder through Steve Alford, Todd Lickliter, Frank Laterbur, Bob Commings, Ray Nagel, and thank God through Evy, Hayden, Kirk, Mr. Davis, Lute, and Ralph Miller. And that doesn't include some of the great coaches in wrestling, women's bb, and probably a lot of other sports that I don't know much about. Count your blessings.

Didn't realize Sumlin was 51. For some reason I thought he was in his 40's. Just 2 or 3 years ago, he was a hot commodity, turned down USC and probably a couple of NFL gigs, funny how things change so quickly.

That is funny but I don't think the writer is being hypocritical (not that you said he was) because had Ferentz had a mediocre season last year the large majority of fans would have been ready to see him go. That may not be right but it is the way it is, and certainly was trending that way a year ago. Winning cures all, like pouring cold water on a hot iron.

We go 7-5 this year and he'll be on the hot seat again. We go 9-3 or better than he builds up one year of equity so that he would then need to have two bad years in a row to go back to the hot seat. That's how it works.

7-5 is a disaster. But I dont think it will happen. Unless KF has a melt down (i.e. back to ultra conservative football).

But I think the young coaches will keep that from happening.
