CJFED breakout year?

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was dated April 10, 2012.

I do agree that calling a senior season a "breakout year", after 2 years of playing/starting is being generous.

He broke out last year. How many times did he run up the seam open while JVB ignored him for a 3 yd out route?

Iowa should still have the tight ends stand up. He would be an all American standing up.

Would you like the QB to back pedal from center, take 2 years to get his feet set and then throw the football.....how bout running a 5-2 defense.:)

It's his senior year. Usually breakout years come before that. This would be what was expected of him. Wouldn't call it a breakout year, would call it his "finally doing what he should be doing year."

I'm going to guess the new offense had something to do with his breakout last year. He had a few drops that didn't help the cause; but I think the new offense (and a couple other reasons) was mostly to blame.

We've talked and talked about CJFED since he walked on campus. We had huge expectations for him as we posted about sasquatch-esk (spelling) sightings of how big his guns were as he zoomed by on his hog, err scooter (beep beep). Does he finally have the year we have expected from him? What do we expect? At the end of the day will he be the guy that looks good in the uniform (tour not in the pros yet says KF) or does he break out this year?

Yes, if the new QB calls off every Davis called play in the huddle and calls his own every down.

At this point I don't see how you could think that any player could break out under this staff/scheme.

Iowas had one player in the last 3 years, Mark Wiesman, "break out." Other than that its been a either low or declining production for just about everyone one.

I'm gonna hold out on deeming this offense completely horrific until I see the offense ran after its been implemented/learned/taught/recruited for.
There's no way GD had success with it for years if it was so bad.
May I suggest you do the same?

Yeah, I really kind of liked our kok offense while many did not. I knew what our brand was, I knew what I was going to see every week (some will say opponents did too), and I knew that if we did it well we had a chance to win even w out having the most talent on the field. Lots of people were very very happy to see kok go, me, not really. Derp Davis offense last year was abysmal. I have no clue what our approach is really, are we a spread, are we just toying with the idea, are we clinging to the old scheme, I dunno. With all the above said, yes, I will give derpy more time before I show up at fort Kinnick with signs calling for the return of kok. We need a little more time to see it play out to be fair. The goal can't be three yard outs with the ball fired into the dirt can it?

This type of offense is only works if you got very good talent. And, yep, he had very good talent at TX. The philosophy is to get the ball in the playmaker or playmakers' hands. It can't work if you don't have any playmakers.

My only hope is that he's changing it for the talent that he will have this season. I don't expect him to throw out the offense completely, of course. Just hope he tweaks it as much as possible.

Right now, logic says this coming season will be very bad again offensively. My heart says, anything is possible and GD will do what he has to to move the ball with what he's got.

if stanzi was the QB and we used CJF on those bootleg passes, he could have a great year. if we line him up on the line and have him run 3 yard outs and curls, expect more of the same.

I was a huge fan of the bootleg. As much as we ran it, time after time it was there. I knew it and could count on it.

even though we ran it a lot, teams had to play it honest, cause it looked exactly like an outside zone run going the other way.

the new GD passing scheme doesn't mesh with the zone run. it meshes with that vince young, shotgun snap handoff to the RB or QB run stuff.

I agree with parts of your last paragraph. I don't necessarily think we'll be as bad offensively as some may think. The run game should be more than solid, the line should be able to give the new QB time to operate, which will hopefully benefit the pass game (more so give it time to develop), and we do have talent that will stress some defenses.
As to your last point... I also think GD will be able to do what he has to do to make the offense work. Thinking back to last year, the play calling towards the end of the year was different than the beginning of the year. This suggests GD is willing to adapt.
