CJB Was Bad Because Nobody Was Ever Open

Yes, VB had nice catches, but he wasn't even open (making the catches more impressive). Also makes Canzeri's game more impressive. Great win, but where were the TEs; and the receivers other than VB are a concern. Great, great win though, and the best teams win the ugly ones. Get healthy b/c depth on this team is not great.

Some of the negativity after this potentially program changing win is strange. This team is rolling and really needs Tevaun back against Northwestern, which apparently won't happen.

CJB didn't play well in other phases, but when a QB has nowhere to go with the ball against one of the country's best Ds, these things happen

Just like in basketball the easiest way to get open for a pass is to come to the ball.

When the hawks are games where the receivers are not getting open or separation then they need to have some option routes where the receiver comes back toward the qb so they are open.

Receiver goes down 9 or so yards and comes back for a 5-6 yard pickup which is pretty good.

Hey! Everybody! Wake up! News flash! Wisky has a Tough tough defense..star players on DEFENSE. Get off CJ back. Wind, sacks, no T Smith, #58 Sholder ? Bearing down, new left tackle Crossen got schooled!! CJ gets first down on sneak. He will pick ilini apart. Canzeri was awesomeness!!! His fumble almost doomed us however. Hope Akrum W. gets to play soon. L Daniels unavailable.
Go Hawks

Actually, Jerminic was open twice for potential touchdowns and CJ overthrew him. Maybe the windy conditions or that they haven't worked together long enough. They will be better syched next week.

I think it was a combination of things. The offensive line was not very good in passing situations, CJ overthrew an open Jerminic Smith twice, and outside of Vandeberg and the two passes to Smith, guys were not getting seperation.

CJ wasn't good overall today but he wasn't the only one who played poorly on offense.

The defense was great on the other hand and won the game.

Breaking in a new LT for this game in addition to starting a new RT this season against an athletic, blitzing OLB is a recipe for CJB running for his life. Not to mention losing your most talented WR for this game.

CJB was bad because we didn't block 58 or come up with any plan to.
This is not a new thing. The delayed blitz has bit us in three of the five games this year. Not sure if that's on the right guard or the center, but somebody needs to spot the LB killing time on the other side of the LOS and then shed his block and plug the hole. I don't buy into the "nobody was open" opinion as the total reason. Plenty of WRs were open but CJB was busy getting hammered by #58 on several of those plays. Every team the Hawks face the rest of the year will see the Clone footage, the Pitt footage and the Whisky footage and plan for a delayed LB blitz. The OL coach had better coach the center and RG and come up with some sort of strategy to mitigate it or CJB is going to get hurt.
