CJ had a subpar day statistically but....

....his audibles were spot on. I believe he changed one a couple times and then canzeri busted a nice run. Nice to see him have a good impact on a game without having good stats. Bottom line Iowa won so I guess I don't really care about the stats right now. Go Hawks!!!

I completely agree. And it's nice to see that he's not just audibling to an outside zone to the short side every time....unlike a prior QB who shall not be named...

Yes, I don't feel he is ever a 'stats' guy, but a 'winner'. He stood in against Pitt and took literally a dozen shots by holding ball to give receivers a chance. Could have took those 'sacks' and kept his 'stats'. Not many Qbs can say they won in Camp Randall. Great performance by him, against a Defense that gave up 3 total points in 3 games!

Have to believe the wind and pressure didn't help - made mostly smart decisions though - going to be another tough one next week

Yes we won,I'm sure CJ would be the first to congratulate our def. for saving us.Hopefully our line will learn from this game and protect him even though it looked like on some plays he couldn't find anyone open.As good as we've been in the red zone it wasn't our findest day.Hopefully we can clean some things up.Go Hawks

We had 4 take always and scored 10 points.

i was extremely underwhelmed by CJ yesterday, and that win had very little to do with him. Our defense is stout.

He missed Smith (the newbie) on multiple occasions.

CJ made some really good throws in the first half and he had to just throw some away.

He was 9 for 21 and threw away at least 4-5 balls which is 9-16. Hillyer had one drop so I am not all that negative on his completion percentage.

Bad field position especially in the 4th qtr led to not many pass calls.

CJ managed the game and we won.

Subpar is charitable. He had a bad day.

But if anyone thinks his leadership in saying "there aren't two units, this is one team" didn't have anything to do with the defense's amazing effort...

CJ didn't have a great day but it keeps me optimistic going forward that we beat the #19 team in the country and it didn't take everything clicking to achieve it. I do agree that the defense is impressive. Jaleel Johnson has clearly answered everyone's questions about our new tackles on defense. I can't imagine what teams would do to try to run between the tackles if Darian Cooper hadn't been injured. They can't do it now.

I was at the game and I think the wind had an effect on his passing. It was a really hard/swirling wind. Most of Staves passes were short ones, mostly swing passes to the left and right. I personally think the Connies were lucky it was that windy to keep CJ from a deep passing attack.

You go out and pass in 28 mile an hour winds and gust to higher than that. The ignorance on this board over CJ performance yesterday is flat out ignorant!! Plus if anyone has every seen the dome down the center of that field you have no damn clue how tough it is to pass at Camp Randall.

This exactly.

CJ had a bad day. Everyone is going to have a bad day now and then. Defense had a great day.

What does a bad day and a great defensive day look like?

Ask Stave. First hand experience for that dude.

Agree that CJ was in for a tough day passing. Wind, gusts, swirling ( ask kickers about that ). Also, wisky defense was best we faced all year. #58 made plays all over the field and harassed CJ constantly. Run game was at least visible and CJ was awesome with proper audibles. He's right, Iowa is a TEAM...not two separate units. We won..now Illini
