Chuck

I'm not advocating a spread offense but why not lure Chuck Long from Kansas. He could certainly spice up our offensive and has obvious clout with hawk fans everywhere. I know at Oklahoma they spread it out and regularly put 50 on the board and it'd be nice to finally put some points on the board. There is no reason we put a meager 18 against Indiana and 17 against NW and Wisky hangs 80 on that same team. Thoughts?

CL is NOT the answer...have you looked at what the guy has done...OU is not a good indicator....but SDSU is.

KF basically showed Long the door when KOK decided he wanted to directly coach the QB's. Why would either want to rekindle that relationship.

Chuck really spiced up KU this past season didn't he . He would be a step backwards coming into the Iowa program. The present coach at San Diego St. is finally cleaning up the big mess Chuck left the program in. Something tells me he will be short lived at KU.

Well... most people learn from failure and sometimes the best people to hire when attempting to reach an objective are people that you have worked with in the past that you knew that just didn't get it the first time around, but didn't quit and improved. Who is to say Chuck Long isn't 10X the coach he use to be? Failure can either break a man or cause a burning desire to be less likely to fail again. Chuck isn't someone who is going to fail out of lack of effort and I think he would be a great addition to the staff again if he and KF get along. I trust KF will do what is best... he doesn't want to fail, and for me to question his loyalty to his staff would be ridiculous. Do I think KoK is the #1 reason we finished 7-5 this year? Yes... but I am not privy to the facts. Perhaps this offensive mentallity, or lack thereof, was forced upon him from a team perspective. The offensive tactics of Iowa suit well to low scoring games and I think that perhaps even KF might be getting a bit Lickliter with stats. If this season tells me anything, it is that defensive stats can be very manipulated by running a defensive minded offense... if your special teams fumbled the ball at the 15 yard line after your defense stopped a 5 play 36 yard drive, only to allow a touchdown on a couple of pass plays (ala Arizona game) does that mean your defense sucks? It appears that way in stats. How about the other teams defense who just played nearly a qtr of football without giving up a yard (because they never seen the field), does that make them a great defense? Again, it appears that way statistically.
This year was a bad year for Iowa football because they were so good, but they were snake bitten by special teams, bad luck, a fake punt, and then worst... many of them quit.
As an instructor for operations designed to task out 70 people... one of the questions we ask the class during training is... how many people out of your 70 would it take to quit before it appeared you all would fail as a group? The answer varies of course upon who did/didn't quit... but a correct answer would be anywhere between 6-10... that is not many. The sad part... no matter how hard the other 60 attempt to work... if just 10 quit on them, they ALL fail. Iowa had a number of people who quit or were injured (quitting isn't always voluntary) this year for various reasons, and it started before the season even began.

It doesnt matter if Mike Leach is the OC. We still will do the same thing as we do now. God I want KOK gone just so people can understand that. If you havent read anything thats been posted the last couple of days, KOK and NP both did a lot more exotic things before hey came here. KOK even has a national title as a head coach. HE IS NOT THE PROBLEM.

That is what I brought up in the prior post... how much of what he is doing is based upon desires from KF. I think he is doing exactly what KF wants him to do. It is the mentality/goals of the team. I liken it to the goals of a porn star. We can negotiate a contract, spend months working out to look good, but in the end the goal ends up being the same. We are humiliated with a money shot, and some stud is walking away.
We need to lose this mentality... we need to become the stud. We need to take the approach that we are not the underdog. I think KF's approach to the game is very good at keeping close scores and it works well for the underdog, regardless of which team that is. Ask the nation what their team would do with 40 seconds remaining in the half with the ball at their 30 yard line in a tie game. ~95% would say, clock mgmt... attempt to score and take some momentum into the half. ~95% of Iowa fans would say... take a knee.

Well, which side is going to understand it? The side that wants a better offense, or the side that will defend KF with their dying breath?

Because, as we all know, nobody could possibly want KF fired... even though our offense has basically sucked for 10 years.

Really? In your heart of hearts, you really think Iowa should get rid of KF?

Bringing back Chuck would not be a good idea, but is on the same level of thinking as this:
Paige: Broncos should turn to Elway to clean up mess - The Denver Post

I never said that. But I can easily see by your post which side of the two I pointed out you happen to fall on.

Yeah, As disappointed as I am with the bailout on the season, I just don't think it's time to look for a new HC. OC yes. DC, don't want to but will probably need to.
