Chuck Long said 6 Hall of Famers coached him at Iowa

These coaches were on the staff at the same time

Fry
Ferentz
Snyder
Alvarez
McCarney
Stoops

Chuck predicts they will all be in the Hall of Fame. Well Fry already is . . .

5 Will be for sure, I have a feeling the 6th probably isn't going to make it. The volume of success just is not there.

His former Iowa teammate Jay Norvell, now head coach for the Nevada Wolfpack, might be a hall of fame coach someday. He is already halfway there in my opinion.

Halfway? He just got his first head coaching job. I like Jay too....but halfway...? no

McCarney won't make it.....Ferentz probably won't make it either. From 81-88 I don't think people from a national perspective realize how great that staff truly was.

The fact that thetrza still manages to get people proves how good he is.

Kirk has had some very good coaches and teachers on his staff.

Norm Parker, Reese Morgan, Joe Philbin and Ron Aiken come to mind. Carl Jackson was good for both staffs.

True he's had some good coaches.

A question for you. Maybe you've noticed, but the board has gone thru a change and has now decided that KOK was a good offensive coordinator. Here's my question: If you're the head coach at Iowa and you bring in 2 proven offensive coordinators (Polasek/O'Keefe) in the off-season, why would you choose an unproven coach with ZERO OC experience to be your new offensive coordinator over the other two? Especially when coming off a disappointing season?

I would enjoy your take.

I understand what you are getting at, but Hayden had game changers, difference makers on that staff. It is not a slight on those guys that you have mentioned, but we are talking about 3 HoF coaches and 5 D-1 head coaches off that staff. It is an apples and oranges comparison to me.

Polasek was an OC at an FCS school for three years. I'm not knocking him. I like him. I just think he and BF's qualifications are similar, and BF knowns the landscape here. More importantly, he's his father's son.

I've felt from the jump when I endorsed BF for the opening that he's the one guy that might be able to add some innovation to his dad's pretty strict foundational beliefs on offense. KF isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so if we want some progressiveness on offense, BF is the best option, IMO. And, I think he knows the game from my conversations with him.

KOK can be a good mentor for BF and help him with the transition. He's being paid like an OC so I think he'll have a lot of input without the scrutiny. It's a good setup for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see him as the eye in the sky (press box) this season.

This really is the final chapter in KF's legacy. If BF is successful, everyone is happy. BF likely gets a chance to succeed his father.

If things go sideways, KF will shoulder the responsibility and his legacy will tarnished. What's follows for the program is anyone's guess.

Oh, I agree. I wasn't comparing the staffs. Hayden's staff was one of the best in college football history as it pertains to producing future successful head coaches. That just doesn't happen very often anywhere.

I was just saying that KF has had some really good coaches and teachers on his staff.
