Christine Grant's View of the Meyer Case

I hope women have the same opportunity as men in women's athletics and if any adjustments are needed at the U of I, I hope they are made. I also hope, however, that any women in administrative roles behave more professionally than Meyer did.

This cuts both ways doesn't it? You have to give women, gays and other minorities the same opportunities as everybody else which with my association with the military I feel proud that the military has always seemed a step ahead of the rest of society in that regard. From there you have standards to uphold and nobody gets special treatment. Hopefully this situation moves Iowa further along in that direction.

Guess the U of I attorneys should have asked the jurors if they were Cyclone fans?

Yeah, no potential bias there.

The UI lawyers didn't do a stellar job in this case all the way around. Holding this trial in Des Moines lent itself to Iowa State fans with their own agendas getting on the jury. People like this woman may have lied to get on the jury which matters in the big picture far more than the verdict of the trial. Just a stupid move to let this go to trial in the first place.

if she lied then the court needs to take legal action against her. If this is all true, I hope she finds herself in hot water.

Me too- totally unethical and representative of a much bigger problem we have in society now which the case highlighted. We have come a long way in my lifetime giving all types of people a stake and opportunities. Now we have identity politics and political correctness which totally misses the mark in creating protected classes. We have to move forward united and not divided by race, creed, gender, sports team affiliation, etc.

Take a look at the war between two sides of our society in the political arena, where both only want to see and hear positions with which they agree. Then tell me if you really think an ISU fan would not love to see Iowa discredited. Did she? Don't know, never will. Does it smell bad. Yup. Think about what ISU supporters would have said if the shoe was on the other foot. This is really too bad.

Yeah but not even that is equal. One side needs "safe spaces". John Cleese puts it very well when he says, "Those who can't control their emotions need to control other people's behavior." That's why one side calls everything they disagree with "hate speech" and then follows that up with the claim that hate speech isn't protected by the 1st amendment. When in fact it is.

When I read "it was a much needed win for women", I think of a person who is more concerned about the big picture than the actual case itself. It reminds me of how the OJ verdict was a much needed win for black people.

I dont think it was the UI and Barta who could say let's not go to trial. Barta and UI were the defendants so Meyer was in the position to say no to any offer by the U and Barta.

Can someone explain to me what everyone is talking about someone lying during the trial or jury selection? Are you saying one of the jurors lied to get on the jury?

Are we serious about this? Someone is going to let their fandom outweigh their civic duty?
People rape, abuse and murder people. Yea, I'd say anything is possible. Look at some of the people on a message board like this....lol....i think they'd take a fall for Iowa or bring shame to ISU if given a chance. All day.

It came out in the media that during jury selection they specifically weeded people out who follow college sports in the state. I've gone through jury selection twice and have a pretty good feel for the kinds of things the attorneys ask although this represented a very unique case. Highly possible that this woman lied and then had the stupidity to post her triumph on Facebook. In a nutshell it reflects so many things wrong in society today.
