Im watching the UNC spring game, and he said the only tough game on Ohio State's schedule is Miami and then maybe Wisconsin said the rest of the teams are pretty soft...

It was probably just a simple over-sight by Spielman. Usually he has nothing but love for the Hawks.

I heard the remark as well, he stated that Ohio State always has Iowa's number and that we are going to be missing our great linebacker group. Mark May was the one that came to Iowa's defense this time.

Yes, nevermind that we will have arguably the best defensive line in the country next year, and that we still have Hunter at LB. Plus Nielson is an Edds clone, and Johnson looked good against Minny.

And Pryor won't find Posey deep with Sash and Greenwood on the back end. Next year's game will be a lot like this years, where the running games really decide it. Iowa's running game should be better next time, assuming the O-Line gels by then (and it should), and A-Rob/Hampton/Wegher are all healthy. And I think OSU will have a hard time covering DJK, McNutt, Reisner, and CJ, plus Wegher's threat out of the backfield.

I won't predict a win by any means, but it should be another classic one way or the other, and this time it's in OUR house!

Mark May was pretty good about giving Iowa props last year. (At least in relative/ESPN terms.) Herbstreit was the only one consistently arguing against people discounting the Hawkeyes. I think after Corso predicted MSU to beat us (after doing the same for Wisky, Mich, and PSU) Herbie replied something like "just keep picking against Iowa and maybe eventually you'll be right..." Pretty much everyone else on the Eastern Sports Network were d*****bags, especially Pat Forde and Jesse Palmer. (Although Forde earned a little of my respect back by giving props to UNI hoops before and after they beat Kansas.)

No love from the national media? I love it. Wouldn't have it any other way. Makes winning that much more sweet. It seemed to work for us last year.

Kirk really wasnt on the iowa bandwagon until after the PSU game, before that he was an iowa basher and all of the message board fans were saying how he knew nothing.

The funny thing about this statement is that we played OSU with a banged up LB group and still almost beat them. Wasn't Hunter out for at least the second half of the OSU game?

I continue to say this same thing- think the team plays better and the fans are hungrier when we're disrespected. Maybe I'm in the minority, but let them keep it up.

Until Iowa can prove that they can beat OSU I would say Spielman is correct. Beating OSU something like 5 times in 40 or 50 years or once every decade doesn't make a very good rivalry. In fact, it doesen't make a rivalry at all. If you are a betting man, you can typically make a lot of money off the Iowa/OSU game year in, year out because Iowa just never beats OSU.

Pretty much a given my entire life and I will be 61 this year. The old adage, "the more things change, the more they stay the same," has never been truer with the Iowa/OSU series. OSU simply owns Iowa and always has.

Glad to see you didn't put "and always will" :)

If it's such a given that OSU will win, wouldn't that make it a poor game to bet on? You won't get good odds at all. You either lose money betting on Iowa when they lose, or you don't make much by betting on OSU when they win 9 times out of 10.

Just because the Buckeyes regularly beat Iowa, doesn't make us soft. We will be one of the toughest teams they face this year regardless of our past records.
