I heard the remark as well, he stated that Ohio State always has Iowa's number and that we are going to be missing our great linebacker group. Mark May was the one that came to Iowa's defense this time.
He respects Iowa. I would guess that no disrespect was intended.
I doubt if any football analyst took a hit from the new linebacking crew or anybody on that defensive line, they would be calling us soft!He may not have tried to disrespect us but he did call us soft.

Mark May was pretty good about giving Iowa props last year. (At least in relative/ESPN terms.) Herbstreit was the only one consistently arguing against people discounting the Hawkeyes. I think after Corso predicted MSU to beat us (after doing the same for Wisky, Mich, and PSU) Herbie replied something like "just keep picking against Iowa and maybe eventually you'll be right..." Pretty much everyone else on the Eastern Sports Network were d*****bags, especially Pat Forde and Jesse Palmer. (Although Forde earned a little of my respect back by giving props to UNI hoops before and after they beat Kansas.)

No love from the national media? I love it. Wouldn't have it any other way. Makes winning that much more sweet. It seemed to work for us last year.
Pretty much a given my entire life and I will be 61 this year. The old adage, "the more things change, the more they stay the same," has never been truer with the Iowa/OSU series. OSU simply owns Iowa and always has.
Until Iowa can prove that they can beat OSU I would say Spielman is correct. Beating OSU something like 5 times in 40 or 50 years or once every decade doesn't make a very good rivalry. In fact, it doesen't make a rivalry at all. If you are a betting man, you can typically make a lot of money off the Iowa/OSU game year in, year out because Iowa just never beats OSU.

It was probably just a simple over-sight by Spielman. Usually he has nothing but love for the Hawks.
