Iowa offered the youngest son of strength coach Chris Doyle this weekend. Iowa City West LB Dillon Doyle talks with HN about the opportunity:

I guess Dillion ended up playing for the Baylor Bears football team, where he was an academic all American and 2nd team all Big 12 in his last year in 2022. No idea where Dillion went after 2022.

Declan actually started out as an offensive assistant at Iowa before moving on to other jobs in the NFL. Declan is only 28 years old, extremely young to become an NFL OC.

Funny that Kirk did not consider Declan for the Iowa OC job when Tim Lester was hired (just kidding, we all know Kirk would never hire someone so unexperienced, and certainly not a family member of one of Iowa's long time coaches)

Honestly I never knew Declan existed. An interesting hire by the Bears to say the least even though he's not going to be calling the plays. That's quite the leap within the industry. Makes promoting Lavar Woods to HC from SP coach (like Harbaugh was at Baltimore) not so crazy too.

And yeah KF isn't hiring anyone with lineage to Doyle that pretty much goes without saying. That bridge is as burned as much as southern CA seems to be.

I watched the interview Doyle did with the Des Moines reporter and he said he hasn't talked to or heard from KF once since the accusations came out, not even while he was still technically employed. He said the day the accusations came out was the end of any communication from Iowa athletics period other than being informed he was let go. Hasn't watched an Iowa football game since 2021 either. There's not even a bridge to be burned.

As much as we criticize Kirk Ferentz for hiring Brian as his OC, Brian was much, much more qualified to be an OC than Declan is.

Of course Ben Johnson plans to call his own plays for the Bears, so Declan may continue to be more of an offensive analyst in his new role.

I think somewhat recently they were both invited to one of those banquet things I forget now who's it was for. But it was said they sat across a table from each other without so much as a glance at each other. That sort of thing may happen again whenever it is Yanda goes to the NFL HOF. If not this yr I think he will eventually be one.

That interview he did was with Murphy from Dsm. I saw it too. Doyle answered some questions but didn't go down the rabbit hole very far and kept things vague. It'd be very interesting for those he's close to to have sat down with him and had some beers and hear the details of what all was what. We just don't know the half of it I don't think.

KF went from making up an award to give him right after Doyle hospitalized over a dozen players with Rhabdo to throwing Doyle off the bus and running him over with it. Granted it wasn't in a short period of time but still. How's that sort of thing happen? There's way more to the story we'll just never get unless books are written down the road... Not holding my breath

Yeah that stuff happens sometimes where friendships/relationships go south cold turkey whether it's bad business deals, divorces where people have to pick a side, etc. I'm guessing there's a lot of animosity from Doyle and a lot of, "I'm looking out for my reputation more than our friendship" from KF, and it is what it is. If KF was found out to still be chummy with Doyle that could lead to the cancel culture making quick work of his career/legacy and Doyle probably knows that too.

Normally you'd at least send somebody a text or make a phone call saying, "Hey, I'm sorry shit ended up this way, have a good rest of your life," and that didn't happen it sounds like. But...as serious as this deal was I'd bet my 401k that Ferentz had multiple lawyers tell him to immediately delete Doyle's number from his phone and don't even open an email from him. KF ain't no dummy and he's smart enough to listen to a lawyer when both his and his kid's asses were on the line.

I will say this...

In my personal life I never send a text, email, or a make a phone call whatsoever that I wouldn't be afraid of being screenshotted and posted to social media by someone who's unhinged. Zipping your lip is always the safest thing to do.
