Choo Choo Train

Riding the train for first time on Saturday with nieces and nephews. For those that have can you pass on the specifics? Pick up place, times, etc. Ok to urinate out window? Nudity allowed?

I rode the train once before. It picks you up next to the i-hop / hotel across from the coralville mall. We hung out and tailgated in the parking lot by the hotel. Trains come and go every 15 min. Cost $10 ticket which includes the ride back. Goes fast and feels like about a 15 min ride. My brother and I snuck beers in our pockets. Drops you off right in front of Kinnick.

I don't think it's illegal to urinate out the window. It's just frowned upon...like fapping on an airplane:cool:

Have ridden the train numerous times. You can easily park at Coral Ridge mall and walk the few blocks to the train area. I can't remember if they charge to park in the lots nearer the train or not. We always park at Coral Ridge mall in the south parking lot area and walk. I would also recommend buying your train tickets ahead or at the Black and Gold shop by Coral Ridge mall (to the south and easy to get to if you park at Coral Ridge and walk to the train from there). I believe you can buy the tickets online ahead of time also. Saves waiting in line at the ticket booth at the train. Usually not bad but if it is raining and a long line there it will suck waiting. Usually with bad weather people will arrive late and all try getting on closer to game time also.

Windows on the train do not open, so you would have to urinate on the floor and I am guessing that is very much frowned upon and may get you tossed off the moving train.

I would just google hawkeye express and see what time it would start. Might be 3 hours before kickoff (can't remember). We usually jump on about 90 minutes before kick off. After the game it runs for 90 minutes post kickoff. If it is raining, dark and cold, then everyone will be wanting to get back on after at the same time so probably some waiting after. And you won't need your ticket to get back on after the game. They don't care at that point and if someone was dumb enough to ride it and get off where there car was not, figuring they are just dumb and deserve to be stranded.

I would say the train will experience higher traffic during bad weather and looks like rain on Saturday. Would suspect greater numbers ridin. They pipe in the pregame and post game audio on the train also. No complimentary beverages or peanuts. have seen people dragging coolers on and off.

Actually cost is $12 per adult now. I think kids 12 and under ride for free.

Get tickets for the train ahead of time if you can, and either way be there at least an hour before kickoff.

The lines for buying tickets and boarding the train get really long in the hour before kickoff, so anticipate this or you'll wind up missing half of the first quarter waiting for the train to come back.

Train is a bit more expensive than $10 ticket these days. It's $12/adult and free/child under 12. All information about pick up spot (iHop) and parking is correct. They don't charge to park in the hotel parking area but it can be very difficult to get out of after a game. The advise to park at the Mall and walk down from there is the best.

We always stop at the Black n Gold shop to buy the tickets. Little to no line and then you bypass the huge line at the hut to purchase them. The train comes every 15 minutes roughly. The first train back to Coralville will not leave until the beginning of the 3rd quarter. So if it's bad weather you won't be able to catch a train before that.

It's a great way to travel and the kids will love it. Let's you out right at the stadium and you can check out the Nile Kinnick statue on the south end. All the great food spots across the street from there. Have fun!!!

The kids will love it. Easy getting to the game. The line waiting to board and return often gets backed waaaay up.
The parking for the train is free.

I've only rode the train when I worked the game. People never like being told they can't bring things in the gate and they need to not loiter in the tunnel. I was called a few names. Funniest was being called a Nazi. Lol

Thanks all. Maybe I will wait for the train to take off, hide in the brush of the ditch with family, then teach them how to jump the train and catch a free ride in.

I rode on the train with my boy for the North Texas game and its kids free and 12 bucks for adults. The ride is like 10 minutes long and the ticket is for the ride there and the ride back.

So you are one of those kind of uncles...

yep, Uncle Buck...

Took the train earlier this year. I think it was $24 for my wife and I and my son was free. We probably arrived at the train place an hour and a half before kick and we arrived at the stadium a good 45 minutes early.

There was plenty of parking at the hotel in the grass lot. We bought our tickets that day. Overall it was a good experience and an easy process.

I did not see any nudity or urinating out the window.
