Chicago State’s leading scorer from last season doesn’t even start for them. They are returning just 2% of their offensive possessions this season. Two percent. And that’s from a team that won just 6 games a year ago. I don’t want to pile it on this Chicago State team, but by all preseason prognostications, they are the worst D1 team in the nation. Iowa’s exhibition opponent was more of a test than this team will be. There’s not a lot to write on this game. Iowa needs to work out their issues early on, and this is the game to do it.
Note: New player alert – Chris (not Rick) Rickert has joined the Hawkeyes as a walk-on. The 6’3″, 180 lb junior will wear Brody Body’s number this season.
KEYS TO GAME FOR IOWA:
- Rebound. The exhibition showed some holes in regards to Iowa’s rebounding ability. Sure, Basabe didn’t play well, so that was a big part. However, the rest of the team needs to get on the glass and show that they can grab boards.
- Run and Press. It’s time to see what this team is about. Fran said the guys will be up and down the court more and they will be pressing more. There’s no better time then now to work out the kinks. If the Iowa is going to be flying all over,
- Stay Healthy. Iowa cannot afford injuries this season, and certainly not in a game like this. The Hawks need to take care of business, but they also need to get out injury-free.
PREDICTION: This should not be a difficult contest for the Hawkeyes. They have the superior talent at every position. They should get out early, build a sizable lead, and get out with a big win. FINAL SCORE: Iowa 104 , Chicago State 70
