Charlie Moore scores 38

Cal (2-0) missed three starters because of injuries: preseason All-America Ivan Rabb (toe), Jabari Bird (back spasms) and Columbia transfer Grant Mullins(neck strain). Martin hopes to have all three back for the next game.

Rabb is obviously the man there and I was surprised he even came back. Bird was a McDonald's AA and has been really solid for them the last two years and Mullins averaged over 13ppg last year for Columbia. Cal should be really good this year

Moore scores 38, Lovett is averaging 20+ for St. Johns, Tony Carr averaging 14+ for Penn State...
We need guards in the worst way, especially at the point position.
For some reason we're trying to play position-less basketball or go big, which is against the trend of modern basketball. I know Fran's argument is he goes after the best player regardless of position but that doesn't make sense. We're going be big heavy and they can't all play on the floor together.
Pistons tried this recently acquiring Drummond, Monroe, and Josh Smith. Two of those players were traded within a year. There are no trades in college basketball but you can bet Iowa is going to have some transfer players on the front court in coming years because of the log jam.

This is spot on!

This is wrong. Position-less basketball is definitely the trend right now, most notably in the NBA. It started with the Warriors bench with Livingston (6'7) at PG playing alongside 3 other 6'7-6'9 guys who can all dribble, shoot, and pass. Many teams are pursuing this, Harden (6'5) is now a PG, heck even the bucks were experimenting with Giannis (6'11) at PG. Last year you saw it at MSU when Valentine was playing point. Im not sure how well it translates into the college game, but to say it is not a trend in modern basketball is absolutely wrong.

As far as wishing we would have landed one of those guys I absolutely agree, it would have been nice. And, I also agree that we've probably recruited too many bigs.

Are we going to see threads about Williams at Louisville (Iowa offer) or TJ Leaf (Iowa offer) or Zach Collins (Iowa offer). I mean Fran offered all those highly ranked guys and never go them to Iowa, why not start threads on all of them?

Iowa is going to always whiff on way more guys than they sign. It is just the way it is, I don't know why some only pick out the PG position. Moore was never close to coming to Iowa, it wasn't going to happen, just like Williams, Leaf and Collins weren't coming here either.

Moore was never close to coming to Iowa? I had heard very much differently. I mean I guess he did only take two unofficial visits to Iowa City so he probably never considered it

Fran moved on to Bohannon, as he knew Moore wasn't coming to Iowa. Doesn't matter if he took 0 unofficial visits or 100, he wasn't coming here, Fran knew it and moved on. They very briefly touched base again in the spring, and once again Moore was never going to come here and Fran moved on to Dailey.

They very briefly touched base again in the spring and once again Moore was never going to come here? Haha. Both Moore and Fran were working on scheduling another visit to Iowa City, Moore was saying he liked Iowa when he reopened his recruitment and Fran giving Cook the green light to recruit him on social media.

I think this is exactly what Fran is selling. I think it was Rob's article (maybe it was a Rivals article?) that quoted Fran and recruiting the 2020 PG to Iowa. Fran was selling him that he wasn't going to be solely a PG, that with the motion offense you become part of that, not just an all the time traditional PG.

There are pluses and minus to this, hopefully Fran can use the long athletes the way he wants, and it isn't an issue.

Haha, everyone and their dog was reaching out to Charlie, and unless you can show me the article of where Fran reached out to him, I missed that. Cook was reaching out to him, but as far as I know Fran and Charlie never even had a conversation. He didn't visit, Fran didn't go visit him and then they had Dailey in for a visit. So if you need to tell yourself that Charlie "almost" came to Iowa, then knock yourself out.

This is true, but you need great guard play to play this style effectively, mobile bigs, and shooters to space the floor.
Instead, we had Wagner, Cook, and Kreiner in at the same time with Wagner playing the 3. Expect to see more of this with Garza next year.
Position-less basketball is effective with Draymond Green playing the 5 (a natural 3 or 4) with a bunch of shooters. It's not going to be effective with a natural 4 or 5 playing the 3 with two other bigs on the floor with no spacing.

One of Iowa’s top targets in the 2016 Recruiting Class recently became available again. As luck would have it, Hawkeye scholarships opened up around the same time.

The two developments rekindled the relationship between Iowa and Chicago point guard Charlie Moore, according to his AAU program. The Mac Irvin Fire and other sources close to the situation told Hawkeye Nation Tuesday the two sides were working on a visit date with it possibly happening as soon as this weekend.

“He likes Iowa,” Mike Irvin of Mac Irvin Fire told Hawkeye Nation on Tuesday.

Here's another of many articles that said Iowa reached out to him when he re-opened his recruitment

In terms of other schools, Moore said he's recently heard from California, Central Florida, DePaul, Iowa, LSU, Miami, Missouri, SMU, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky. Georgia Tech, Memphis and Northwestern have been in the mix as well.

There is even stuff on Twitter from reliable people saying Iowa offered him again after he re-opened up recruitment but I doubt Fran ever talked to him. Haha

Where does this say Fran never talked to Moore? Why do you think I SPECIFICALLY said that I was unaware of Fran talking to Moore. That was the big problem from the start, the handlers. I am still unaware of Fran ever talking to Moore (on this second go around), there is a reason there was never a visit arranged, and why Iowa moved onto Vital and then Dailey.

That was old news by then. You need to follow the timeline. I think Moore claims he has an offer like the beginning of April, middle of April Cook is "recruiting" Moore. A week or two later the Mac Fire coach says they are talking visit. Visit never happens, end of story.

Like I said earlier if you wanna talk about every recruit that "talked" to Fran and had an offer, then knock yourself out. TJ Leaf once has us in his top 10, you gonna give us weekly updates on him? Williams had us on his top 3 I think, you gonna update us on him? Collins had us up their, nothing yet again, we gonna get updates?

Moore was never going to come to Iowa once the handlers got involved. Fran don't play that game (and no I'm not saying Moore was paid, not all handlers get paid). What I am saying is Fran recruits kids, not the handlers and will walk once it becomes obvious that the handlers are controlling or have a lot of control of the situation.
