Change of pace.

I remember when Kirk said we'd be running the no-huddle at various times a game to keep the defense off balance. One drive per game of completely no-huddle is not a change of pace. You need to mix it in at various times on various drives to keep them off balance, Kirk. Especially when Vandy is struggling. He always seems to catch a rhythm when we go no-huddle.
 
I think our guys are having enough trouble executing plays, period. If and when our fundamentals show up, then we may see a little more on-the-fly variety. I agree with your assessment of the no-huddle's purpose, but it really doesn't look like the Hawks could handle that right now.

Fair. I guess, then, I agree that we may wish to just use it on more drives period.

I just think switching between huddling and no-huddle in the middle of drives right now would just be one more thing for these guys to think about when it already looks like they can't tell their ***** from their ankles.
 
I'm just tired of the all talk and no show from Ferentz this season. Also, when rogers is healthy he needs to be in with Weisman in the Red Zone. Bullock/Garmon are good between teh 20s but when in the Red zone go down easier than Scorpio's wife.

Lol. Hey-ohhhh.

Agree with the bolded, in perhaps a less specific way. Even beyond the no-huddle, it seemed there was big talk of a new attitude around the program, but we still look scared and tense out there. Yesterday's honorary captain (Roth) was good for a personal foul penalty every other week. Yes, we had great defenses then to make up for those, and no, I don't advocate playing dirty, but our guys look a little too 'controlled' out there. I remember when we were on the rise in 2001 and Sanders, Stockdale and Shane Hall were all headhunters in our secondary. Can't really do that anymore, but really, how often do Hawkeye players put even semi-fierce licks on opponents anymore?
 
Well we would see more big hits if we played nico law instead of soybean. Let Soybean take his job as special teams specialist and nickelback and let the young, talented Nico Law get his feet wet.

Amen. I don't know how much more 'ready' these young players from our last two classes (both top 25, no?) are going to get, but I'd love for some of them just to get some snaps. We play like a frickin' baseball team that can't sub back in or something (I know Ferentz subs, but nowhere near as much as other teams seem to).
 
You have to have more then one pace to be able to change it. Slow is slow no matter if you huddle or not.
If you watched the Mizzou/Georgia game, what Mizzou did was change of pace. Until Iowa recruits some speed, there will be no change of pace.
 
its a fact that the offense looks in rhythm when the pace is picked up....players stop thinking and just react like they should anyway.
 
Regardless of what was said pubically, any Iowa fan who honestly thought that Kirk would allow Davis to run a no huddle offense this year outside of a 2 minute drill or when Iowa is way behind late needs to have their head examined.
