Yeah, there's no doubt in my mind about that. On the flip side, a lot of BTen teams this year were as good or better than Texas Tech, and the Bulldogs lost to them by what, 13?I think if Freeman stayed healthy they would have rolled through Drake's schedule, gaining more and more confidence along the way.

I was also excited about Lick. I'm still picking up doo-doo from my yard on that one.Cannot imagine that Chad would put himself out there without the proper sourcing. This is exciting news. One of the hottest up and coming coaches available, and we got him. Of course, I remember saying that about Alford 20 years ago.
Yeah it sounds like the sources in West Virginia are saying it's a done deal with IOWA but IOWA has a few details to work out. I thought he did a great job of coaching his players at Drake and hopefully the lure of playing for a big ten team can bring in some high level players, including a couple of those guys from Drake. Also I hope a few of the Iowa players will return after meeting with and talking to Ben.Chad says he expects it to be finalized with McCollum today. We shall see.
Yeah 6'8 was their tallest dude I think. Even schools at that level need a 6'10 or taller dude in the middle. Remember back when James Winters played the post for us? Dude was 6'5 tops and for some reasons he was our man in the middle for whatever yr that was in the 90s.Their only weakness was at the Center Position
Just like us they needed a stopper

Imagine how pissed Fran will be if we triple our NIL and renovate Carver.NIL has to be part of the negotiations these days and I am sure that is complicating the discussions. Its no longer just about salary and length of contract and buy out. Any sane coach is going to make demands on NIL, facilities, fan engagement, etc. Ben seems like a bright guy and he can see what led to Fran's demise. He isn't going to walk into the situation without some understanding of what is going to change.
I also bet they are considering the women's game in making this announcement.
And we should sooner then later. He has nobody to blame but himself for his lack of fan/booster support.Imagine how pissed Fran will be if we triple our NIL and renovate Carver.

I'm going to miss the high speed game but I'll try looking at the bright side. Those high pace back and forth games were stressful as F. Just a two hour rollercoaster of emotions. Maybe this will be better for me watching in public. Also a home town guy who is only 43. If he is Bo Ryan, maybe we are Wisconsin or better when he returns in 30 years. If he's Lick, it only costs us a few years to find out.
David Taylor was the only one on the planet who could even be considered for that and he's at Oklahoma State now with a blank checkbook, 2 individual title winners, and the guy who just beat the most dominant wrestler in the history of the sport. I know Gable and Sanderson had very, very slightly better records, but Steveson absolutely mowed through every bit of his competition for 4 years and has the record for most career bonus points by 10 miles. Taylor also has the number 1 recruit in the country coming from the east coast; he ain't going anywhere.BG’s legacy defining hire will be replacing Kirk. If McCollum is a fail, there is a good chance she will get another bite at the apple. Now a caveat to all that is the wrestling stuff. I am not a wrestling person, so I have no clue how that factors in, if or when, she has to move on from the Brands.
What is your opinion of the BMc hire for Iowa basketball? Are you excited?David Taylor was the only one on the planet who could even be considered for that and he's at Oklahoma State now with a blank checkbook, 2 individual title winners, and the guy who just beat the most dominant wrestler in the history of the sport. Brands' seat is below zero. Most of the talk I've heard from HWC insiders (private donations make up almost all of the wrestling program's real money and Tom is an absolute wizard at raising it) is that Lee is projected to be the next guy, coming on as an assistant after the next Olympics. If Lee gets it I can see him being successful, but no one in the next decade is going to come within arm's length of Sanderson. That guy is making what Gable did look like child's play. Didn't think I'd ever see it in my lifetime but here we are.
If MBB coaching hire is a fail, does anyone notice?BG’s legacy defining hire will be replacing Kirk. If McCollum is a fail, there is a good chance she will get another bite at the apple.
