CBS Bracketology has Iowa #1

I would expect ESPN to be the same.

I know, I know, it doesn't mean anything in January. But, I think it does. I think it gets people looking at Iowa and talking about Iowa basketball in a way that none of them ever has, except for the guys in their 60's who are still employed in the field and remember the Hawkeyes run in the 1980's...this is as good as it has been since then.

So you can take your 'this doesn't matter' replies, and stuff them in a sock...every day in the spotlight matters....it's like equity, or interest on an investment...it matters.

Totally agree. The simple fact that any reputable sports media has Iowa as a number 1 seed is a big deal for a program that has been beat up for awhile.

Just think how much fun it would be, if like in college football playoff, they had a week to week committee seeding for the tournament that came out every Tuesday with a bracket, and a selection show. It would be madness, but a lot of great talk.

It all matters...makes the season more fun. If we can get one more road upset at MD things are really going to get interesting! But we control our own destiny...even with a loss.

I agree ... it does matter. There are 351 D1 programs for basketball and when you are at the top of the heap it's quite an accomplishment. Great visibility for the entire program and the University. A #1 or #2 seed and a run in the tourney certainly will help recruiting of the 2017 and 2018 classes.

Yeah, yeah - "it's only January" yada yada...

This is great. Any pub like this for the program is excellent and has to help recruiting, yes? Not to mention - I haven't forgotten where we were 5 years ago, and now, here we are. Awesome.

A lot of work yet to do, but this is fantastic for the program and the fans. We've suffered through a lot over the past 15 years, and it's times like these that make it all worth it.

So just to clarify, we can be in the West and still play in Dez Moines?[/QUOTE

Looking at the brackets...its appears so. Don't we want them in the Midwest Region where Chicago is the Regional host and the first rounds in St. Louis? To me that would be ideal. IMHO

The national pundits don't have anything bad to say about "this" Iowa team. Kids are playing great & Fran is getting the most out of everyone that plays. A #1 seed is well deserved & great for the program. ...can't wait until Thursday

What can they say. Unlike the football team, this basketball team is beating quality opponents on a consistant basis. They are for real.

I'm dreading winter ending because it means basketball will be over. Now that's awesome.

I just realized, I will be heading to Augusta, GA for the Masters during the Nat'l Championship game, so I'll be glad winter will (hopefully) be over (unless Iowa is playing in it), then that will suck

You can go through Des Moines to Chicago. The 1st and 2nd round sites aren't tied to the regionals. Iowa is a 1 playing in Des Moines then going West. Kansas is a 2 playing in Des Moines then going to Chicago.

Each of the 1st and 2nd round sites with have 2 regionals tied to them. This brakcet is saying Xavier is the higher 1 seed then Iowa therefore Xavier gets Chicago as it is closer to their campus than Anaheim while Iowa goes West.

You our are correct... Here's a link from US Today

Masters?? Dang, I'm totally jelly dude. That would be awesome!

Exactly, when they seed the top 4 in each region they then try to have them stay as close to home as possible. They obviously start with 1, then 2, then 3, then 4. By putting the #1 as close as possible that is 2 games gone from that 1st and 2nd round site as you have the 1/16 and the 8/9 games. Then you place the 2 seeds close to home and that is another 2 games, 2/15 and the 7/10 games. Then you go with the 3 and have 3/14 and 6/11, then the 4, 4/13 and 5/12 match ups.

At this point you have the first and second rounds set. In this bracket for example, ISU is a 3 seed and MSU is a 4, ISU is higher seeded therefore they get St. Louis since it is still "open" and MSU gets shipped to Spokane.

Also Iowa is a 1 and Kansas is a 2, those two go to Des Moines so that would mean a 3 or 4 can't come here because it is "filled" and when placing the 3 somewhere they would go to the next closest destination since Des Moines isn't an option anymore.

It matters because sports are fun and seeing your team getting praise is even more fun. Only nervous loons who yell at sports talk show hosts say annoying things about how early it is

Ill be at the Masters all week. If that means missing the Monday practice round because Iowa is playing in the Final Four, then so be it. The Masters tournament isnt going anywhere
