CBI???

Think we'll go? Or will the Big10 strongly discourage us from going from behind closed doors and we'll be left with no postseason?

I hope not. It's a third tier tournament that saw one power conference team-Oregon-participate last year. Just not sure what the point is at this juncture. So if you win a game or two in it? Who cares outside of the most avid Hawkeye fans.

I don't see why more experience for the underclassmen, and more games for the seniors is a bad thing.

Would you turn down a bad bowl too? Do some Iowa fans suddenly have "Notre Dame"-like egos?

I have a bad feeling that the B1G will dictate where Iowa can go (i.e. - CBI).

We may have seen our last Iowa BB game of the year. And that saddens me.

No reason the B1G should "discourage" us. And absolutely ZERO reason you turn down opportunities for sanctioned play outside of "regular" season (practice/game time, PTL, etc.), especially for Gatens and the other seniors.

I have never understood the "snob" attitiude about bowl games or other tournament-type deals. I especially don't understand the "it-doesn't-make-us-money" argument from a bunch of ham-n-egg'rs who don't foot the bill in the first place.

At most schools, and especially schools like IOWA, the successful men's sports (football, basketball, MAYBE wrestling) are what make it possible for the women's teams to go on their Title IX entitlement trips where they fly first-class and stay in nice hotels and eat at Lawry's and Ruth's Chris.

Matt Gatens busted his *** for four years. He deserves a post-season game or two, be it CBI, CIT or NIT. Who cares if it's third-tier? And who even decides that? After 2008-2011, the players, staff and fans have all earned it.

If we get a chance to play in any post-season tourney I hope we play. We have a young team that needs experience and needs to continue to learn. I know some of you are bitter but get over it, we got beat by a team that was/is better than us. I'm sure Gaten wouldnt turn down a chance to play just because its the CBI, he just wants to play basketball.

Fran and Barta should tell them to stick it if that's the case. It's a pay for play deal and if Iowa wants to pay for it, they should decide.

Not Jim Delany and his cronies.

5 star post.

I want us to play in any postseason tourney we can. The one-and-done game prep and pressure (even lower-tier options) can't be replicated. It will improve our squad going forward.

I just think we should feel that the CBI is beneath us. Not that our play the past five years would indicate that but we should try to instill that mindset.

Now, if we somehow play in it I'll support em irregardless.

If there was a single nut in the collective sacks of the Iowa Ath Dept we should tell the B1G to either get us into the NIT or else we are going to the CBI.

But Barta will kiss Delaney's ring just like he did over the chair incident and roll over like a puppy

You go this season and never again.

That's how you say it's "beneath is". You can't say that without being there once.

No excuses going forward. NIT or bust next season, and a possible NCAA trip.

Frankly, B1G OWES the rest of the league for what OSU, Michigan and even PSU scandals have created. Who knows how many deserving teams missed BCS games or NCAA/ or NIT tourney bids because of the cheating that went on? And the PSU scandal tainted bowl season for EVERY B1G team, since they were the focus of the conference after it broke.

If the B1G is REALLY "discouraging" CBI bids or CIT appearances, it means one thing: Jim Delaney is going the way of Wayne Duke and his "only-one-Big-10-team-in-a-bowl" crap. Duke currently resides with the dinosaurs down at the Field Museum. Except he was probably OLDER than most of those on display.

B1G is getting pretty "selective" in its memory. Woody Hayes as an "icon"? What's next? A summer series on the Misunderstood Life of Terrelle Pryor? Or how about The Unfair Treatment of Jim O'Brien? Before you know it, D'Antonio will be making a trip to Oslo for the Nobel ceremony. And of course, the "culture change" of Urban Meyer (I can only assume "culture" means the crap we will see growing within that program, although his hiring all but proves it never left).

Right because more practice and games would hurt this team instead of help . I don't understand this thinking.

This isn't football. You won't get weeks and weeks of practice. At most you will get a few days. There is no benefit to that. This time of year teams are shortening practices anyway. More practice against each other, does nothing for us. Neither does a game vs Northeast New England A&M.

If we run the table and win it, so what? It's the CBI. If we slip up and lose a game then we just lost to another terrible team. There is no upside. Not to mention, it hurts the profile of a power conference team to play in the CBI. Teams recruiting the same players will use it against us.

The games will not televised. Bottom line? Nothing in it for us.

If the Hawks have a chance to go, I really think they should go play in it. It certainly is not going to hurt the team going forward. The two teams that played for the CBI title last year? Creighton and Oregon. Creighton has obviously built off that expirience and had a very good year, Oregon (Sub .500 last year), has definately improved and has gotten themselves onto the NCAA bubble, likely out after a loss last night, but probably NIT bound. So I think an expirience like that can only help the Hawks. It would be something for them to build on. If you don't agree with that, then I'm pretty sure you are just wrong.
That said, it sounds like the B1G would have to allow it, which I certainly hope they do. It really doesn't seem right that they could tell someone not to play in it if they have the opportunity.

The past five years has shown nothing is beneath the Iowa program.
You have to start somewhere, this would be step one in the rebuilding process.
