Cats and Clowns Kickoff the Season









Good W for ISU

I was thinking, what great exposure this was for the Big 12. The only game on, first game of the season.

I'd bet all the teams and fans in the Big 12 footprint plus Hawkeyes would have eyes on this game.

By the way we found the Antrim coast of Northern Ireland to be by far the most scenic part of the country and that's saying something. But it's more scenic than the Ring of Kerry, the cliffs of Moher, Slieve League, the Gap of Dunloe or any of that stuff (spectacular as all of it was)

We honeymooned there in 2003.

Over the course of two weeks, we went south out of Dublin, down to Kilkenny, then Waterford and over to Cork. We stayed along the southern and western coasts and spent time at the Dingle peninsula before flying out of Shannon.

K State looked bad, ISU got better as the game went on. Becht can throw the ball and our DBs are suspect. Their D looked decent as well, athletic linebackers.

If we can run against them, it'll be a game. If not, we're toast.

Keys to the game will be to run the ball and stop the run on defense. As always. Oh, and win the turnover battle and don't give up big plays (like last year).

We had a fourteen day guided tour and our own fourteen passenger shuttle piggybacked by starting and ending in Dublin. Will have a difficult time topping it even if we go back. Rain was an issue on only two days. Wild Atlantic way was breathtakng from the Ring of Kerry to North of Donegal. You coukd get a decent Irish stew or Shepherd's Pie for €16-17, The Aran Islands were breathtaking. And don't get me started on the Irish music in the pubs and on the street corners. Shane McGowan of the Pogues had passed away in November 2023 and homage was still being paid everywhere. (The Pogues themselves, reformed with three original members, will be touring the United States soon)

Had to pass on kissing the Blarney Stone however. My back was messed up and it was challenging enough just getting to the top of the castle.

I bent over and looked at the Blarney Stone, but there was no way I was going to put my mouth on it.

You touched on the true charm and appeal of Ireland, and that is the social environment that exists in the endless pubs that dot the landscape. That's truly what makes Ireland special. We thoroughly enjoyed the scenery and sights, but most of the great memories were from those pub experiences.
 






Well I think our D line should dominate anyway that should help negate their QB and passing game. I also think if we run our QB that we could take advantage of that I thought KSU had some moments where that worked well for them. But they didn't stick with it. That was kind of a slow track they played on. Tough to get passing game for either side into much of a rhythm.

Just read where Campbell said clones have one of the toughest schedules in the country
Iowa along with Arizona State are probably toughest and both at home. Don’t think many people are going to buy it and I’m surprised he would say it
