HAWKEYE SPORTS PROPERTIES AND MEDIACOM EXPAND MARKETING AGREEMENT

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Hawkeye Sports Properties, the official multi-media marketing partner of the UI Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and a property of Learfield Sports, and Mediacom, the state of Iowa's premiere telecommunications provider, have agreed to an expansion of their current marketing partnership that includes sponsorship of the competition surfaces inside the Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Effective with the UI men's basketball team's game Wednesday (Feb. 2) against Michigan State, the playing floor inside the UI's award-winning athletics facility will be referred to as "Mediacom Court" for all men's basketball, women's basketball and volleyball events, and "Mediacom Mat" for all wrestling events. The new agreement also provides Mediacom with the sponsorship rights to the outdoor club level of the Paul W. Brechler Press Box at Kinnick Stadium, e.g. the "Mediacom Outdoor Club."

The agreement also calls for Mediacom and Hawkeye Sports Properties to continue on-going discussions with the UI Athletics Department staff that explore opportunities for Mediacom products and services to enhance the game-day experience for fans of the Hawkeyes while attending events at Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

"Partnerships that truly create a win-win for everyone are hard to find, but we've had one for years through our partnership with Mediacom," said Gary Barta, the UI's director of athletics.

"I can tell you the renovation of Carver-Hawkeye Arena would not have been possible without incredible gifts and support from many individual donors and this wonderful commitment by Mediacom through our multi-media partner, Hawkeye Sports Properties," Barta added.

"Mediacom is proud to play an active role in support of the academic and intercollegiate athletics missions at the University of Iowa. Every Mediacom employee is dedicated to delivering the most advanced communications technologies and service to the communities in which they live and work," said Ed Pardini, Mediacom's senior vice president.

Mediacom's history of support for the UI includes financial and/or in-kind gifts to Hancher Auditorium, the UI's Museum of Art, the UI's International Writing Program, and the UI Dance Marathon, for example, in addition to its support of the intercollegiate athletics program.

"The University's athletics facilities are among the most well-known in the country, and we're pleased that Mediacom can play a role in enhancing these assets through our expanded partnership with Hawkeye Sports Properties. The partnership provides visibility opportunities for Mediacom, but the real beneficiaries are current and future student-athletes, and the tens of thousands of fans who regularly attend events in Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena," added Pardini.

I have had the "pleasure" of writing syrup-sweet press releases like this in the past, and I say that this release is the Sgt. Pepper for PR hacks.

The way they spun this ridiculous idea almost made me buy it for a second.

I feel the same way about your football picks.

Is it going to say Mediacom Court on the court? I care less what they call it, I just don't want to see it on TV.

Case IH Red Zone, Mediacom Court/Mat/Outdoor Club, what next? The Pepto Bismol Visitors Locker Room?

F U Barta...F U.

I wonder what the BTN will think of this? To have Mediacom Court shown on the scren when it is being broadcast on the BTN will be kind of odd. Didn't BTN and Mediacom have some issues when the BTN started?
I also wonder what this will mean for future out of conference football and basketball games and their broadcast rights?
I do not have Mediacom as I have not been a fan of them for the last 5+ years.

Kind of lame- but would assume there's some good money involved. The press release just reads funny at the front end because of all the exclusive provider fluff that goes along with each entity- could have done a little better there.

Horrible - not to mention the fact that Mediacom is a pathetic company with atrocious customer service and a second rate product. Veiled messages?...

Sadly, this is the latest wave of corporate sponsorship: Name the building, and even if that's been done, name the field itself.

If those idiots wanted to create some goodwill amongst Iowa fans, they would call it the Chris Street court provided by Mediacom or something.

I hate Mediacom, they jack Iowa fans around by not getting the BTN right away, then they splatter their name all across the court.

And since we're talking about idiocy... the Case IH red zone is moronic too. I absolutely detest when it comes on and feel physical revulsion when I hear it. It's seriously embarrassing. And the fact that they have Dolphin saying it makes it even worse.

I don't know why, but this pisses me off more than the current state of the basketball team. If Iowa wants to whore themselves out, they should just name the whole building Mediacom Arena.

Nothing like naming your court after a **** ant company that can't do anything right. If Mediacom was the only option for me to get cable or satellite in my area, I would do without. How long until Carver-Hawkeye comes off and the stadium is named after some other corporate contributor?

Folks, it's all about the benjamins. We all know this...college athletics is big-time business, and when we're competing against bohemoths such as Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State, we need to grab every dollar that we can.

I don't know if the playing surface/wrestling mat will have a MediaCom reference or not, and quite frankly, I don't care. I'm certainly no MediaCom fan either, but if they're going to flash the cash at Gary Barta, then you just can't blame him for accepting it.

+1 Absolutely.
