Carl Davis is going to the Ravens as the 90th pick. He should have went much higher so the Ravens are getting one heck of a deal with this late pick.

Getting a little tired of your negativity Nick. It's a big moment for Carl, no need to call him a hack.

Congrats to Carl! He will show he was taken too late. Ravens know defense and guards

I would rather be taken by a good team than a poor one, even though initially it will mean a little less money. he could be in the playoffs for the next 10 years

Davis expected to go higher and I'm guessing going towards the end of the 3rd round will be extra motivation....

"I was expected late first or early second round. When it went to the third round, I was really down, but I was still confident," Davis said Friday evening. "I just didn't know the reason and it was out of my control. I was just hoping that someone would pick me. Now I look at it as my job to make every other team regret not taking me and to make myself the best player."

"I am so motivated right now. I feel like I am one of the best defensive tackles in this year's draft. I feel like when I have a chip on my shoulder that there's nobody that can stop me."

Sucks that he fell that far, but he is in a better spot than Clayborn was after the draft. Though the money isn't as good up front, a guy like Carl Davis or Mike Daniels is way better off sliding and winding up on a reasonably good team than going early and playing for a dumpster fire of a franchise. The immediate expectations are much lower and there are other guys on the team who draw the attention of the offense, letting you quietly amass some good plays and good tape, so when that second contract comes around you are seen as a viable player and contributor who will get some more money and get to play for another few years. I don't think he'll be a superstar or household name, but I do think he'll develop into a top tier run stopper and be pretty highly sought after when his rookie contract lapses.

Whatever money Carl loses by his draft day slide will be made up by the money he earns going to the playoffs.

Huh???? Unless CD is the 2nd coming of JJ Watt the money he missed out on will be difficult to make up. Clayborn if he isn't total dodo will likely get a decent chunk of change on a 2nd contract with Atlanta. The way the current CBA is structured; if you are not a bona fide star by time your deal is up, you ain't making up that cash up on the following deal.

Whatever. Longevity is better if you are brought in as a guy to add depth rather than as a guy who is expected to start and the CBA provides big benefits to veterans. They jammed down the rookies and the delta between 2 and 3rd round isn't that big. Average role players from good units typically land in a better spot than average guys from crap teams. A guy like Davis is way better going to Baltimore in the third than going to some tire fire in the second.

Meh. There is no middle class it is the have(s) and the have not(s). Who will end up making more money Adrian Clayborn or Mike Daniels? Adrian Clayborn or Karl Klug?

Not sure how the money thing will work out for Carl but I really like this spot for him. Baltimore has a good d line and he will be a piece of it rather than the center of it. He's a man on a mission who won't be seeing nearly the double teams he saw his senior year at Iowa. They have great coaches in Baltimore and he only recently started grasping the concept of leverage his junior and senior year. I think he can become even better if he's willing to put the work in. He has the size and power to be a star. I'll be curious to see his continued development over the next couple seasons.

I think Carl will do fine. The one thing Baltimore does great is continuing to develop players and fit them into their schemes.
